LMAO... We have different definitions of "awesome car".

The car is three years old, and has had three different owners. The last two have got rid of the car after 20 days, and the other after 7 months, both with "severe problems".

Doesn't matter the issue, I'd learn from others mistakes and stay away from it.

I’ve never seen them give a reason for the buyback in the listing. Sometimes the salesman will hint at the reason in person if it’s not too bad. Local dealer went to taking in a lot of buybacks in the last few years, it sucks. Gotta watch for it now.

Just the word "LEMON" and buyback is enough for me not to buy the car.

Never, ever even consider any "Buyback" car- no matter how good the deal. My daughter experienced it first hand. Shed bought a Subaru Imprezza about 5 years ago. Only like 5K miles on it- was a "buyback" She had just graduated college and was looking for a good reliable AWD car for a budget price and it fit the bill perfectly. It had "transmission issues". She test drove it a few times- drove perfectly. She bought the car and has had 5 years of trouble free driving it. Just this year she wants to trade it in- growing family- dog, new born son, etc. Wow the dealers knew it was a buy back and pretty much no one even wanted it as a trade. A Subaru dealer offered the best deal and she kind of settled on a new Ascent. But her first choice was a Toyata Highlander but the dealers did not want it at all. So any buyback should be a red flag, just like a rebuilt.

Value is affected but 5 years of trouble free ownership doesn’t sound that terrible. And nothing wrong with rebuilt cars when fixed CORRECTLY. I’ve rebuilt 5 myself, all have been perfect.

Personally I’d avoid buybacks but that’s generally because the manufacturer doesn’t actually fix it. Sounds like your daughter got lucky and Subaru actually fixed the problem!

This... couldn't agree more. I haven't bought a used car in 30 years. The last used car I bought soaked me. I've leased for years because I liked the security of always being under warranty and not having to worry about values when trading-in. I purchased my Camaro as I'm hoping to keep it for many years (as long as it doesn't become a problem car). Buying any kind of used car is like playing Russian roulette and the words "lemon" and "buyback" make that more probable.

Tell your friend to walk away from this one! Never buy a buy back or lemon car! Bad investment.

Federal law requires revealing if a car for sale has a branded title. Having been through a Lemon Law buyback on a car from a different manufacturer, I would accelerate away from this one as quickly as possible!

Everything has a price, even a buyback car. We just differ on what the discount needs to be. Personally, I would need 1/3rd off the the average price of a similar non-buyback used car to make me feel good about it. Others would only need 1/4th off, some would demand at least 1/2 off.
