Sound Damping...
I live in So. Cal. and do a lot of driving on bad asphalt and concrete freeways. Last night I took a friend for a ride and could barely have a conversation with her in the car. There is no doubt that the road surface and run flats both play into it, however I've only owned sports cars and the 2SS without doubt has the loudest cabin noise that I've ever encountered. I'm an engineer and work in loud environments all the time, I have a good team of sound engineers that work on various projects with me when projects are in residential areas. I'm doing some cabin sound checks and will use my own car as a guinea pig to try and resolve the issue. My goal is to dampen the sound without adding a lot of additional weight to the car and at the same time not break the bank.

I have noticed Goodyear Tires in general just have harder rubber. They are a little bouncer and louder but they last a good bit longer than the other softer rubber brand tires. As expensive as tires are i will probably choose the harder rubber original Goodyear Eagle directional tires that came with the car again.
Remember this is a muscle car not a soft luxury car. Your Camaro is designed for only two functions, as my teen age son says, - going 0 to 60 in 4 seconds and picking up babes. Suggest you leave the car in Track mode. On long trips turn your radio up and put some cotton in your ears. Worry about something important like what is going to pull up beside you at the next stop light.... |

I think most of you are missing the true issue here. It's the Camaro's lack of unibody insulation.
When I got my 5th Gen I didn't believe how much road noise there was. Since I bought my SS primarily for long road trips this was an issue for me. I insulated my unibody from the front seats back 100% including every panel I could reach. Even with my Solo exhaust my 5th Gen is now silent unless I lower a window. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6th Gen Camaro is the same as the 5th..... Absolutely no unibody insulation.

I like your videos...not so fond of your slogan "Making Camaro Videos Great Again " it reminds me too much of somebody who I am not very fond of : )

I changed out the run-flats and it makes a big difference. I have added sound deadening mat from the rear seats to the trunk including the front-half of the wheel wells and the sides behind the rear speaker panels and it has made a huge difference. I still need to do the back-half of the wheel wells and trunk. I could leave it as is but have the mat and do not race so I am not worried about another few pounds.

Ok, so it not just me. I just got my 2021 LT1 and the road noise on rough roads is way worse than my 2010 2LT. I assumed Chevrolet was just getting cheap and not deadening the cabin as well. I never had a road noise issue before. So am I to believe that it's just the run flat tires? I'm willing to go with regular non-run flat tires, but that's kinda scary considering I no longer have a spare tire to rely on. I was already to do the sound deadening process like some of the other guys here, which sound like a major pain in the ass. Please save me.

As to running the risk of not having a spare, it's a personal choice; if the risk feels too high, you can buy a sealant kit (the SS 1LE comes with one, for example), or rely on your insurance for roadside assistance, and as yet another option, there is at least one type of spare tire kit that fits in the trunk.

Still loud even without the run flats... I'm running GY A/S 3+'s and its still loud on most pavement types.
I do wish it was a bit quieter, road noise wise. |
