Dealerships are the only crooks out there...similar thing happened to me at my dentist 2 weeks ago, some mysterious $120 bill shows up out of nowhere 2 years later because the main dentist retired and sold the business to his partner, who is now trying to "reconcile" unpaid bills...I had no unpaid bills, got 3 different answers as to what the bill was for and for whom (me or my wife), no invoice with date of service, no written details, nothing...harassed me for months, until they sent to collections. Argued with the office manager, she didn't want to hear it. So there I was caught between a rock and a hard place, had nothing to show me to prove, but I couldn't show anything since the number was just made up out of thin air, so I had to pay it since collections already had it. Not worth getting a lawyer for $120.
Feel your pain and disgust at these dealers, they all try to screw you at some point, even the so called good ones is what my dealer is considered. They are good most of the time, but every now and then they try to pull a fast one over me...good thing I am friends with the Sales Manager, he takes care of me and knows how much business I have given them and how much I still give them.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog, they are truly family.
If there's a $700 discrepancy, that's on them, not you. If they can't provide a signed copy of the original estimate then how would they have a leg to stand on in small claims court? Even if you do technically owe them the money, how unprofessional they were in itself should merit a $700 credit. They should cut their losses and take the hit.

I think $50 seems fair. Anything more would be too much for all the trouble they caused you. Good luck.

Here's what I suggest:
Donate the full disputed amount to a legitimate charity of your choice, then let the dealership know you did so. |
