Drive every time! Memories...I've driven coast to coast several times with cars (new and used) always positive memories.

May have to consider a southern route...

No doubt. Ship it. If it was less than 300 miles away I would consider driving it back, but not 2,000 miles. I picked up my car from a dealership 225 miles away and was able to make the trip there and back in one day. I wouldn't want to drive several days to get home.

I've also had two brand new cars shipped to me from dealerships before with no issues.

Typically I would prefer to drive, BUT having driven OEM tires in the cold and wet I wouldn't chance it.

Drive it back. It’s allows you to see the car up front and inspect for any damage and allows you to back out. If everything checks out then perhaps ship. Hate to have it delivered and then there was damage they never disclosed.

True, but shipping does not mean he can't fly in, inspect the car upon delivery, then fly back while the Camaro is trailered to his home.

I did an 850 ish drive home, flew up from Kansas City to Detroit. It was round about 12 hours by the time I gassed up and took breaks, meals and all that. 2K sounds like a chore. I did ask but never got an answer about shipping it because I was more concerned about getting the ZL1 in winter; tires.

My main concerns with driving would be weather, damage, and the logistics of scheduling the maintenance at 500 and 1,500 miles. Plus I would have to use some vacation time. Of course the benefits would be seeing the car in person before I purchase, getting the break-in out of the way, and saving some money.

Now hopefully by mid-April the chances of running into snow storms while crossing the mountains is minimal, but I cant do anything to avoid rain so I will just have to accept that.

For damage, I have thought about a combination of track wrap and and a novistretch bra along with rock guards. I am hoping that will help minimize the rock chips on the front bumper and along the sides.

For the first oil change, I was thinking of stopping in Lincoln Nebraska, although I'd only be at 400 miles. for the second oil change and rear diff fluid change, I could stop in Boise which would be right around 1,500 miles. Would there be any issues waiting until I got home at 2,100 miles for second change? I do plan on tracking the car occasionally, so I would like to follow the maintenance schedule for warranty protection, but skipping that last stop would definitely help with logistics.

With all that said, I am curious to hear what others would do in this situation.

Thanks!
Eric
What dealer is St louis did you purchase it from? I bought mine in there, but I only had to drive it 120 miles back home. Bought mine from Jim Trenary.
I believe I would drive it, you can usually get an extended forecast that's fairly accurate. There are a couple routes you can look at but, ultimately, that's up to you.

I say have it shipped to your door. You’re just talking about $1100 more to have it shipped. Be sure to do your research and select a reputable car transport company that will take extra care with your new ZL1. It may cost more but worth it for your peace of mind. Good luck and congratulations on your new ZL1.

This time of year ship it. You do not want to encounter cold and snow on the drive.
What dealership did you get it from?
And congrats!

I'm all for driving but for a brand new car that's within break-in and (ideally) in perfect condition. Don't let the drive destroy the perfect condition.

+1 Ship it

I just got my '23 shipped from Iowa.

It was picked up on Wednesday morning and delivered to my door in a covered trailer Thursday afternoon.

If you need a name and number to get a quote, I'd be happy to share my contact with you.

I had mine shipped, and it was just across the state. Didn't want to risk damage before I could get PPF installed. I used Plycar to ship enclosed, great company to deal with.

It's a car.
Would you enjoy the drive?
I know I would.
Enjoy it.

If it's a collectible, then ship it.

Are the people who say drive it actually reading the post or just the title of the tread? It's a car that has summer only tires on it. OP has to go cross country in spring over mountains. Possible snow, below freezing temps... etc.. Why on earth would you risk that? It's below freezing and snowing right now here this AM. Can't imagine It's the only spot (especially in the mountains) that we are getting this $hit weather right now.
