2022 Headlight fuses

Hello, I'm hoping that someone can help me out. I have a 2022 3LT v6. I want to set up an LED light strip so that it will turn on when I turn on the headlights, or when they come on automatically. My thought was that I should be able to easily plug into one of my headlight fuses and be done...however for some very strange reason, the fuses marked as 20A RT HID and 20A LT HID have no power at all to them whether the car is off, or if the car is started with the headlights off, or if the car is started with the headlights on. I am using a test light to test for power. I found lots of power on all the other fuses, but never any on the HID fuses. Interestingly enough, both my HI BEAM fuses have power when I turn on the high beams, but the HID fuses never get power...and my headlights do in fact work BTW . The fuses in question here are F31 (which is the “20A RT HID”) & F32 (which is the “20A LT HID”)

I'm very confused. If the HID fuses are not for my headlights, then where are my headlight fuses (inline in the wire harness or something?), also what the heck are the HID fuses for? I also looked in the trunk fuse box and did not see any label on any of them which would indicate they are for the headlights...same for the in cabin fuse box. Just for the heck of it, I pulled both HID fuses to see if my headlights would stop working, but they did not.

Any ideas or thoughts? I know I could splice into my headlight wire to get the LED to turn on when the headlights turn on, but I do not want to do that. I would really like to find the headlight fuses.

Thanks

to the forums, DonP, and congratulations on your 3LT I think your 2022 has all-LED headlights, HID was only used before 2019. That, and the limited scope of the redesign may be why HID fuses are in place but not energized.

thanks for the replay arpad_m. I thought they kept the headlights HID, but I guess not.

Either way, shouldn't there be fuses for the headlights? There are sep fuses for the RT and LT high beams. I would expect there to also be fuses for the RT and LT main headlights.

I'm out of my depth as to the design of 2019+ Camaro headlights, but the older HID assemblies only had one bulb and an electronic shutter mechanism that switched between "low beam" and "high beam" mode. Perhaps this is how the new LED-based beams are implemented as well and there is only one physical light source.

(Base trim pre-2019 halogen headlight assemblies did indeed have separate low beam and high beam bulbs.)

Ah, if that is how things are done arpad_m, then that would explain why the fuses for the high beams work and why they actually do work...they would used be to trigger the "electronic shutter" as you put it. This sounds reasonable.

However, this still does not answer the question about where the headlight fuses are. There must be fuses for the headlights which activate when the headlights turn on. I tested all the ones under the hood, and I did not find any that get power when the headlights are turned on. All the other fuses either have power constantly whether the car is started or not (not many like this), or have power constantly when the car is started. The only two fuses that only have power when triggered are the two high beam fuses.
I will look more closely at the fuses in the trunk and in the cabin...although I would find it very odd for them to be in either of those places.

Thanks again arpad_m

I'm wondering if the LED headlamps may be driven directly from the BCM. Because the LEDs are a lot less electrical load compared to the HIDs, they may not need the relays and fuses in the low beam circuit. Or the circuit fuses are in the headlamp assembly itself (and probably are not servicable if this is the situation)

Alas, I don't have the 2022 service manual and my 2018 would be useless in this case. Someone with an Alldata subscription or access to this new service manual (which isn't easy, it is no longer sold to the public online) might be able to help you.

GXP08jrf that is something I did not think of and it seem likely that could be the case. Thanks for posting.

arpad_m Yes, I actually tried to find the service manual to buy it, but could not find it for my car. The latest one offered was for a 2019 I believe (I forget now, maybe it was a 2018). Either way, def nothing for 2020 and higher.

Thanks for your input guys.

All data diy has been a godsend. I paid for a month and then splurged for a year just last week. Why do you say it's not open to the public or are you saying just the newer models? Cause not much ISNT on all data regarding my 18.

What I meant is that Helm, Inc used to sell the actual GM service manuals to the public, but they stopped offering it starting with model year 2019. Alldata is of course available, so is the ACDelco TDS subscription, but the actual printed service manual or even the electronic (USB) counterpart for 2019+ is difficult to obtain.
