2.7L Turbo High Output

Hi All , got this offer in the mail the other day , my question is, is this the same engine offered in the Camaro. Is this a tried an true engine. Offer only on this engine platform. Offer runs to April 3rd , so I only have limited time. What do you all think . Thanks in advance.

It is not the same engine, Camaro is 2.0L Turbo.

Variation of the 2.7L Turbo has been around since 2019 in the full size trucks, updated recently with more power and torque.

I actually just bought a 2023 GMC Sierra Elevation with the 2.7, since adding any features to the Elevation took it over $60k msrp.

Hoping to have good luck with the engine, it does not feel underpowered. My last truck was a 2017 5.3L v8, and this seems quicker, and I do not tow often or at all.

I demoed a truck with that engine. It is way under powered for a vehicle that size and gas mileage wasn’t any better. There is a reason Gm has such a great offer on that package. It’s terrible way to out fit a truck. You would be better off with an ev

Totally agree with you on the full size truck, although I am curious to see what that engine will do in the new 2023 Colorado.

Seems like 2022+ is when they updated the 2.7L to be ‘stiffer and stronger’ yielding an increase from 348lb-ft to 430lb-ft torque.

For OP, the Silverado 2.7L is the L3B engine while the Camaro 2.0L is the LTG engine.

Even with 430 Ft-lbs, I wouldn’t want the L3B in an extended or crew cab truck. A lightweight RCSB in 2 or 4wd probably wouldn’t be so bad though.

It seems to be a good engine. We sell a ton of crew cabs with the 2.7 and everyone seems happy with it. The new upgrades to the L3B made a pretty big difference. I was skeptical as hell about a 4 cyl. in a full size GM truck but the 2.7L made me a believer. I'd take one over a 5.3 any day.

My salesman said the same thing. He was at a Chevrolet meeting where they had a 5.3 hooked to a trailer and a 2.7 hooked to a trailer. They were able to drive both, and he said he would take the 2.7 every day. This just came up in casual conversation, because I ordered a 2500HD, so he wasn’t trying to sell me on the engine.

Majority of the new Chevy & GMC 1500 trucks base & mid trim levels are 2.7L now at least from what I've seen on dealership lots.

It's standard on the Silverado/Sierra 1500 and is the only engine option on 2023+ Colorado/Canyon models.

The option to upgrade to a 3.0L turbo I6 (LM2/LZ0), 5.3L v8 (L82/L84), or 6.2L v8 (L87) aka the trucks version of the LT1 is still there

I missed out on a 2018 , 5.3L crew cab 2wd , what I prefer LT , 50k miles , 1 owner local Arizona purchased an serviced at this dealership with Chev pre-owned warranty for 30k . I hesitated , went back the next day , was gone. I figured so but oh well
So for 13 k more including tax an license, I can get one of these. I have a week to decide.

My thoughts:

I only have like 700 miles on my 2023 so far, but I have no regrets.

I did however, purchase a 6 year/60k GM Protection Plan, for $1450, so if anything goes wildly bad, I'll get it repaired under warranty and move on from this truck.

Is the engine going to be rock solid for 100k miles? I don't know. It does seem true that it will have to work harder than the 5.3/6.2, but I am trusting GM engineering.

The new/additional features and looks of the new truck sold me on it.

The 2.7 Turbo engine performs fine for daily driving, but admittedly does not get much better mileage than my old 5.3 v8.

With 310hp and 430tq, which comes in at 1400rpm, it is not a dog to drive at all.

But I don't tow, and just need the truck for Ohio winters and unplowed roads at 4am when leaving for work.

Best of luck in whatever you decide.

Not the same engine but a 4 cyl is a 4 cyl is a 4 cyl...

I test drove a Silverado crew cab that looked exactly like the one pictured in the ad you provided. After putting it through a few paces I returned, hopped out, and laughed at the salesman. The 4 cyl. engine was noisy, high revving, and had a constant annoying transmission hum that echo's throughout the cab. To top things off, the brain trusts at gm thought it was a good idea to put the engine stop start feature on a 4 cyl. IT'S A 4 CYL. FOR GODS SAKE! HOW MUCH GAS ARE YOU GONNA SAVE?

After my test drive the decision was easy...Lease or buy, I wouldn't touch a 4 cyl. on a full size pick-up at any price.
This is another example of gm not knowing anything about their customers!
I chose the 5.3 V8 over this engine because it was much smoother, quieter, and didn't have the annoying transmission hum that was so prevalent on the 4 cyl. It also was a big plus being able to tow a my loaded down RZR trailer down the highway without so much as a flinch from the V8. Load up a 4 banger, hook up a trailer and you'll be screaming down the highway getting getting less MPG then a V8 under the same conditions.

If you're considering buying, keep this in mind...A vast majority of truck owners won't even look at a used 4 cyl. full size pick-up. They know that over time 4 cylinders become rattle ridden, noisier, under powered garbage over time.

I think it would work well in that application
