AiM Solo 2 Custom Mount Complete!

After futzing around with the various lap timer apps and not getting the accuracy and consistency I was looking for it was time for the gloves to come off. I felt it silly to spend all this money on track days without the ability to accurately measure MY performance so I have an accurate base for improvement. Enter the AiM Solo 2. It’s basically the cheapest, simplest choice vs. the Garmin Catalysts and so on but that’s fine for me. I’m not needing data acquisition, just lap times. Now I needed a mount! I have a tinted windshield, so suction cups are a no go. I also didn’t want to obstruct more of our already limited field of view. I already have the ProClip phone mount on the console, so after reviewing their dash phone mount I though I might have a winner. Fast forward to today, and everything seemed to have come together nicely. CamaroFest isn’t for another couple of days so I haven’t gotten to test it, but I high hopes it’ll work just fine.

I love that idea. I already have the Proclip that I haven't used mainly because I thought it was too close my hands on the wheel. Is there enough clearance in your setup?

As far as cheap and accurate lap timers for your phone, I've been using RaceChrono Pro for years. It's linked to an external GPS which makes laps time very accurate and has many other features. I love its customizable screen showing delta lap times etc. I've compared it to using a transponder which I used for TTs and its easily within 0.1 sec.

Hope so on the hand clearance, I’ll have to double check. The apps CAN be accurate, but I didn’t want to buy a GPS transponder and stick it on the dash. Also wasn’t a fan of looking down at my phone for the times.

How was the clearance to the AIM with your hand on the wheel in that area? Of course this also depends on where you have the wheel set at

Had clearance by a mile, total non-issue.

Note! I Have my wheel telescoped as far back to me as I can get it usually.

I'm looking at doing this. Have any more details on how you mounted the AIM to the Proclip?

It’ll be obvious how they fit together when you get them in your hands. Just drill your holes and call it a day, not much to it.

I love it and I already had the Proclip laying around. Plan to hardwire the power under the dash. Also will securing with a lanyard. Thanks

Pictures of the AIM mount attached to the Proclip mount after drill holes in the proclip and attaching hardware. It becomes obvious when you have the pieces in hand. Do test fits before drilling
