Header install question
Picked up some stainless power headers and noticed the install instructions say to just coat header and head with the supplied high temp aluminum rtv and install. No reference of re using factory manifold gaskets.

I installed stainless works which are basically the same, just used stock gaskets. Never heard of no gaskets.

Re-using factory gaskets is what most of us did.
Also, if you have not already, check out the DIY that is posted on here somewhere. It will give you a great idea how to do it yourself, if you are going that route. T.

I used a new set of gaskets just because I had them. You won't have any issues reusing the old gaskets though.

A few header companies say to use RTV but I have no idea why. The OEM gasket is perfectly fine and can be reused until it's toast. As others have posted, if you have to have a new gasket, get the OEM one. I don't think there has been a single issue when using the stock gasket, while there have be a few issues using aftermarket ones.

Well I had already installed them yeaterday and used the supplied rtv only. Was debating removing them and putting the original gasket back on but decided to let it cure overnight. Well fired her up this morning and no leaks took her for a 20 min drive and still good. Hopefully it holds. Sounds like a beast with the npp exhaust.

Cool, hope it works out! We just use new GM gaskets, never the orange RTV.

With most aftermarket Headers you will get either RTV or a new gasket. You will find that most experienced shops will re use the factory gasket. They work great and will last longer than the aftermarket gaskets.

Most experienced shops will just install new gm gaskets to get the correct crush on them. More of a garrenty they will never leak. Many people re use the stock gasket with great success.
