That's what I wanted to hear and nothing else. Just wanted to know if its common.

Buildup on just the outboard exhaust tip IS normal, if you have the fuse pulled...but what you're describing sounds like not regular buildup.

If you can SEE it (or your buddy can) blowing soot/oily fumes out the back...that's not normal. - go visit your dealer. Could be any number of weird problems with the engine.

EDIT: Just saw your pictures: you're fine. What you're wiping away on the rear quarter panels is brake dust...and what you see on the exhaust tip is normal...give it a good scrub/polish every time you wash it to prevent staining...otherwise - all good!

The ZL1 had a LOT of carbon buildup on the exhaust tips...but then, it was burning almost double the fuel at times. This isn't so bad.

Yes. Just wash them. The outer ones are dirtiest.

Look ma! I got a sooty exhaust too. Perfectly normal. Go to you tube and watch the motortrend test of the 2013 1le and look how black that npp tips are.

Tire dust also. Have same issue - have white/NPP (but reg SS with Pirellis). You should have seen the rear bumper after a day at the track. The "dust" is very black so I have assumed combination of tires/brakes/exhaust.

I have this same problem ,stock engine --no mods, after reading the replies It looks like this is a normal issue for those cars.
Someone mentioned the fuse pull,is this the fuse pull they mention for the 2010 models, where as if you used the low grade fuel it set the ECM and the result caused poor performance.By installing the 93 octane fuel in it and pulling the fuze for a certain length of time set it back to factory default mode.Would using a lower grade of gas cause it to soot up or even water/city driving cause this issue.

Lots of performance cars (look at a BMW M exhaust pipe) seem to be tuned rich.

Catch can helps slow the accumulation as some of the soot is inhaled oil vapors. I think the inhaled oil caused misfires for me as well, which led to more soot.

Just for the record, the NPP has nothing to do with this. The cars are rich to keep them safe. Its all very normal.
