Do you 1LE guys use smaller wheels for street driving?

Tried searching but this isn't easy to find:

I'm curious - do you guys that track your 1LE run a smaller set of wheels and save the stock set for the track?

I know you have to Pay to Play, but the cost of the stock tires makes me think it would make some sense to run them on the track when the handling differences would be more apparent.

I haven't tracked my 1LE, yet, but if I decide to the plan is to buy another set of 1LE wheels and put track tires on them.

I'm running street tires now, that just makes more sense given the OEM tires aren't worth much unless it's warm and dry.

The car easily overpowers smaller tires IME. Whether it's acceleration with mustang-sized tires or cornering with it's weight. You can go down a little, but then you are still close to the stock size and still expensive. If anything, you want the smaller wheel diameter for the track.

What To Do About Daily Wheels / Tires with a SS 1LE

This is a good questions and different people handle it different ways. I looked in the classified section until I found duplicate factory takeoffs. I found a set that had been removed from an SS 1LE and had Michellin PS4S tires in the factory sizes with TPMS sensors. If you find a used set, be certain that they are on the same frequency as your TPMS sensors so you can get the cheap $9.99 tool to reset them. I also purchased a set of Lexani LX-20 tires so that I have a winter set up and a summer set up. I sold the original supercar 3s because the Michellins work for me. My backup was going to be to get replicas from MRR (MO17) to rotate in but they are not forged throughout and I want a forged wheel for street use when running a 30 series tire. This car looks so good with that tire setup, I couldn't bring myself to put something smaller on. I purchased the ZL1 addon mud flaps and i go with that. Good Luck. Hope this helped.

I did. I actually bought a set of all seasons and 19x10s for DD duty before the car arrived. I live in the Pacific Northwest and we see a lot of rain so all seasons were safer than the stock goodyears. The stock wheels certainly grip better and have better feel, but all seasons make a lot more sense epecially when you're not looking to drive above 8/10ths on public roads. Also it allows you to run a square setup so that you can rotate the tires and get much better life out of them.

What tires did you get for the square setup? Thinking about getting the Apex Arc-8 for track and run A/S on the stock wheels.

I bought Apex ARC-8s 19x10 ET20 square for daily use and put Conti ECS 285/35 on them. This way I can rotate them for better wear and use them as a rain or "rain likely" track tire. This should work OK through the winter as it doesn't get overly cold in NC and I've heard the Conti's don't tend to get as slippery as other summer tires when the temp dips below 45. Doesn't save much money vs the Supercar 3s, but increases versatility and the DD safety factor. They can still handle full throttle acceleration for daily fun.

The OEM wheels will keep the Supercar 3s and be used for dry track only where they excel.

Going to a 19” wheel could cut rotating mass by a large amount. I’m excited to get my 19” apex setup and feel the difference with the slight gearing advantage and weight loss.

my stockers are only for the track. For my daily driving, I went with a 275/35-20 Continental DWS06 square on a the MRR M017 1le replicas. I did want to get a OE second set, but they are expensive, and take offs seemed gone as soon as they were posted. The MRR wheels are acceptable, i don't regret getting them.

Putting smaller wheels on a car? Definitely not.

I have 18x9 with 275/40/18 General All Season tires all around for winter. I use the stock tires and wheels April through November. My car is outside so i can't just let it sit on the Goodyears.

My '20 came with 19s and I can't think of a good reason to go smaller

Pretty sure they’re referring to the width lol. I can see it up north if you need some better all season tires, since they don’t really make them in these sizes.

I think we've got both going here because I see, "Going to a 19” wheel could..."
