HEX Vents Temperature Data - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

All,
A couple weeks back I promised to consolidate the test data we captured during testing of the HEX Vents. Well, I finally had time this weekend to get that done. The attached chart shows the temperature differential between the stock and HEX Vented hoods on three Camaro's with three different FI setups.

To conduct these tests, a heat probe was placed on the middle underside of the hood, directly above the engine (approx. 10" forward of the firewall). Funny side note, the wire on our temperature meter was not long enough to reach the inside of the car so we had to duct tape it to the windshield!

We conducted the tests over three days at the same time of day, the ambient temperature varied only between 80-85 degrees from day to day.

Each car was at full operating temperature, the under hood temperature was recorded at 20MPH increments up to 100MPH (yes, the duct tape held the meter just fine at 100mph

)

The vertical axis on the chart is degrees Fahrenheit, the horizontal is speed in MPH.

Thanks...the hoods seal on these newer cars very well, it's like an oven in the engine compartment.

I met up with Steve last week, first off, his car is sweet!!!!! (and fast) I took a look at the HEX Vents and it is a high quality product that has been well thought out, the shape of the vents match the lines of the hood and I can tell you the hot air was coming out of those vents. I am looking into getting a set for my Camaro. Thanks Steve for taking the time to meet and show me the vents. Chris

CB, we'll be at Camaro 5 Fest, come on by and say hello if you're there. Like Chris realized, you have to see the vents in person to appreciate how good they look and how well they work.

Hmm you do have me thinking! Curious did you ever happen to do any testing without the hood blanket. I have mine removed due to it was slightly rubbing on top of my polished whipple, and also the IC reservoir cap actually punctured the hood blanket.

Can't wait to get mine and install them in my extra hood...

going with four of them in one hood, for the heat removal and for air removal for some fairly fast passes at the Texas Mile...Hopefully this will help keep the front of the car from trying to float... 200+ mph is not a place to get light in the front end...

Steve, I'll provide pics of the hood, with four of them installed when I get them...
