Summer is here...any mod plans for top down season?

Title says it all. Anyone planning some fun stuff this summer, or will you wait until winter?

I have some major mods coming, but concerned about car being under the knife for too long.

I live in Houston so Summer is not the best season for a vert (apart from night time). So with that being said, I'm collecting/waiting on parts and then it's going in.

Kooks Headers (ordered)
Kooks mid pipe (ordered)
Carbon Elite Intake (Received)
Mishimoto Expansion Tank (Received)
Weapon-X Heat Exchangers (Received)
Cordes Performance Header tank (ordered)
Whipple (ordered)
Meth (Will get when it goes in)
Cam (Will get when it goes in)
Lowside (If needed)

I probably wont be doing everything all at the same time but haven't decided exactly what will be installed at which stage.. I will likely complete everything in 2 or 3 stages max.

Very nice Ricco...seems like you are moving in the same direction as my #projectundertheradar...I am upgrading the entire fuel system and not adding alky injection.

Makes me feel sad that you don’t like summers in Houston. Still, maybe nights are better.

Don't feel bad, we are just coming out of convertible season down here. Its just too dang hot in the summer for the top down, plus the sun is brutal, especially in traffic.

I really didn't want to run Meth or E85 but my tuner tells me that its tough to safely go much past 700whp on straight 93. I think we may have a neat Meth tank solution though so I dont have to give up my washer tank and it should still be pretty stealthy.

I agree. From everything I have seen 700’ish seems to be the magic number. I told Laynlo 100 times that I only wanted 550whp because that was the level where my Vettes were the most fun before things got stupid. Drives 100% like stock until you get into it, but really fast on the street.

That lasted almost a week.

Now I will be running the JRE Super Street Brawler setup and will be in the 700whp range. I think the difference this time around is the kids. They, like their daddy, will love the cam. Wife will tolerate it because of the kids. I do have concerns with the non-no setup it will simply be too loud, so I might have to do something to quite the exhaust...we will see.

As far as this thread, if you hate the heat in Texas, You need to visit me in St. Louis. You can have 100degree temps with crazy humidity...I must admit, I often drive top down with AC on. I also don’t drive long distances in the vert...so pretty much if it’s not raining, top is down.

LOL.. Guess you have never been to Houston

I'm going to do cam bc I've always wanted a lumpy idle.. No better sound IMHO. Kids will love it and wife will tolerate it, just like you

I'm hoping to be in the 800's with the Whipple, cam and Meth.. I told my wife that I want to be scared to press the throttle pedal.

Ok, just to join in, I live in Oklahoma. Today was 97 degrees with 87% humidity. Top down, counting all the my little pony verts with the top up. A/C on high, radio screaming some old Hendrix songs and loving every second of it.

With my setup, 800whp will be easy, but my plans for now will be to stay in the 9psi range and run 700whp. I do think the lumpy cam will make top down driving even more fun.

I too have Kooks on the way. I have a Cam and fuel system sitting in the office. Waiting for pistons and headers...then I am good to go.

I have a question, looking at what you have already done, and what you plan to do, it appears that money is not exactly hard to come by for you (forgive me for the assumption). Considering that, in terms of fuel management, intercoolers, etc. you are essentially building a beefed up ZL1, why didn't you start out with the ZL1 convertible and upgrade from there?

I asked Matt (Lethal Camaro) the same question , and he didn't really have an answer. His goal was to build a track monster, and while he gets great numbers in a straight line, he gave up when he realized that he would never be able to get around the overheating issues inherent in starting with the SS platform, as opposed to just starting with the ZL1 with the 11 intercoolers, upgraded fuel management, etc.

Yeah, that’s a good question. For starters, I wanted the convertible more than anything and I just came into a smoking deal with the SS convertible. I will never track the car beyond a straight line quarter mile, so from that performance characteristic, I can and have upgraded the SS to have better straightline performance than the ZL1 for far less money. Take the SS, add the blower alone and you will exceed the ZL1 straightline performance.

I didn’t anticipate my illness (modaholic), returning with such vengeance. After the next round, for straight line performance a ZL1 owner would have to spend the exact same money for performance mods except they already have the fuel system. Because the ZL1 has a lower compression motor, they will also have to run more boost to get the same results. I guess, I see the straight line performance question as kind of a moot point. If I had found the great deal with a ZL1 convertible, I would probably have gone that route...but really, for me, it doesn’t matter where I start, it’s about making the car my own.

In this case, where I drive, I will be able to make a ZL1 look like it’s standing still. My car will be more comparable to the straight line performance of the Dodge Demon or Corvette ZR1 (will be faster than both). Looking at the price, I think it could have gone either way, SS or ZL1 as starting point...probably just a function of how I drive, where I drive, and what matters to me...stop light to stop light, on ramp, quarter mile a couple times per year...most importantly, driving all summer with the top down cruising with the kiddos, or cruising to the golf course.

As far as spending the money, I wouldn’t say I don’t care about it. I just try not to have any debt so when I want to do something, I can. That being said, my wife is the controller and I have definitely pushed the envelope on this effort. I had to agree to get rid of my bike...which means I am down to three vices, my car, golf and cigars.
