Talking CAM NEWBIE

I have a 2013 ZL1. I currently have Kooks LTs (catless) and Roto CAI. Wanting to upgrade cam. Do I need to upgrade any pulleys or will boost levels remain relatively OK with just doing a cam and tune? Also, the car has ~9500 miles on it. Will keeping my stock lifters be OK?

On a side note, my goal as of now isn't to get too crazy with the car. It's a weekend warrior. I would like to eventually be between 600-650 so I'm sure pulleys will eventually be in the future. I was just trying to hold off on having to buy/add heat soak mods such as upgraded heat exchangers at this point in time (limited money). My ideal cam would provide good/noticable lope at idle but still maintain great drivability, good power, and low engine/drivetrain abuse (if that's possible). I've read ALOT of threads on the forum on this topic trying to educate myself and was appreciating ideas from you experienced ZL1 guys with regards to my goals. Thanks in advance.

I have this kit from jre.

http://www.jreperformanceparts.com/g...p-package.html

It will put you at your goal of 600+ hp going this route will cover most of your bases of fuel, boost ect. You'll have it set up already for a bigger lower pulley for when you want to do the cam. I dont have any heat soak upgrades on my car and intake temps are just fine. Best thing I can tell you is give Ted a call and just go over what your plans are for your car and he will help you put you on the right path.

Your boost levels will drop with the better air flow with a cam.

Stock lifters will be fine with a cam, a trunion upgrade would be a good idea.

Heat soak I wouldn't worry about at that HP level. Would it help sure but you wont gain very much from it.

Also I can't blame you for wanting to do just a cam nothing beats the sound of a cammed LS.

BTR Stage 2 or 3 cam. Honestly I would do the lower as well if you are looking for 650ish. Keep in mind you will need injectors eventually as well depending on your boost level. As far as full kits the one above is good, but just do your shopping. Everyone tends to have certain aspects of particular vendors with the packages they offer. Honestly I did a package first and end up building it again to the way I wanted. Its easy to jump on a package that is put together for you already, but I felt like I wanted it my own way. Good luck.
