How cracked is too cracked for a 1le rotor?
https://imgur.com/a/CO20SC8
Quick meh picture of my front rotors, 14k miles with most of that track. Just started running dtc60s this year and wanted to see if I'm due for rotors yet. The cracks look scary but they dont go to the edge of the rotor, they do get grabbed by a fingernail though. Thoughts? |

In my experience the OEM rotors get to minimum thickness before the cracks become an issue. Have you checked their thickness yet? These rotors might be ok but they are probably getting close. I change mine once a year and get about 2500 track miles with them.

I'm not a brake expert, most of the 1LE track guys say to run the rotors till they get a crack to the outside of the rotor.Or till you get cracks that you can feel with your nail. Surface cracking/checking like that is normal. But it will be time to get new rotors soon. I guess the question is to run those for another track day and see how bad they get or to change them now and be safe and ready for this years track days.

What you said is what you typically look for. Cracks that go to the edge of the rotor or can catch a fingernail in them. Your picture also looks like they may be getting close to the minimum thickness so you'll want to check that. If you track regularly using DTC60s or 70s plan to change your rotor rings annually due to cracking, not min thickness.

Thanks all! Going to order a set of Girodisc rings anyway as I expected. Just wanted to see if it was worth an HPDE day or two before I trash them. Will measure thickness with some calipers soon to be sure before i toss em
