ABL Footwell Lighting Install
I'm thinking about putting led footwell lighting in my Camaro. However, the DIYs I've seen require that I either install a switch or tap it into the dome light.
My dome light is always off, so I don't want to have the dome light on in order for the footwell lighting to come on nor do I want to manually turn them on and off. Is there a way to wire it so that it automatically comes on when I open the door and turn off when I'm driving? Thanks!

If you tap into the dome light, it'll come on and off when you open and close the door. Don't think it matters if your dome light is always off.

That switch controls the dome circuit, so, if you tap it, and have the switch off, it will never come on.
If you tap the dash lighting circuit, it will come on when the door opens. It will also be on whenever the dash lights are on. |

I am away from my car at the moment, but I'll confirm once I get home.

This is how I wired my footwell lights, but just went out to the car and turned off the dome light and the footwells go out with the dome light. Turns out i was wrong. They won't turn on when I open the door while the dome light switch is off.

A solution might be to utilize an idataLINK ADS-ALCA module. It has a - door status output. I haven't tested one but it may be just what you are looking for. It operates over the CAN bus so is independent of the dome light control.

Or how about just switching on the dome light and taking the bulb out? Then the footwell lighting will come on but not the dome?

I would still like to have a dome light for the rare occasions where I need to read something in the dark.

That said, if anyone wants to purchase one, I've got the ADS-USB cable and can flash them if you send it to me.

Buy a Viper 5906V to go with that module. You can then justify the $85. Add on the DSM250 SmartStart GPS module as well. I've got a log in to activate those
