Racing is a parts breaking sport so it is all part of the game.

You got over 200 runs on an engine that came with the car, at over 700 hp that is a testament to GM Quality.

So that is a lot of fun for very little investment.

Not like you built a 30,000 dollar engine and blew it up.

Typical racers will rebuild they're engine every 2 years needed or not, some every year.

In sports like circle track SK modified for example which is very common around here, some teams have 3 engines on rotation and will use all of them in a season.

They have 1 in the car, 1 in the trailer, and 1 at the machine shop getting rebuilt at all times.

So I laugh when I hear drag racers complain about a broken piston after 2 or 3 years of racing.

It doesn't suck that's racing.
Well said. It just comes with the territory. Obviously it’s a different scale, but when I did motocross for 15+ years we used to literally rebuild them between races if we had to. Part of the racing life.

I've been drag racing for 50 years, I couldn't get 200 runs out of my small block stroker motor in my 68 nova. It ran 9.70@136 and it was 4340 crank, manley hollow dome pistons (14.5 to 1 on alky), Bill Miller aluminum rods, ported aluminum heads, sheet metal intake, 100 runs and I'd have to pull it apart if didn't break something before then. I've only put 1000 miles on my car in the last 2 years and it just has over 12,000 miles total. You think about it, everyone of the 200 runs is at wot and it gets punished in the water box before the pass. I'm happy and it will be better then stock when I get done. Pulling the heads tomorrow to see if we will need an over bore and go from there. I'd bet no one on this forum has more passes then 200 or even close to that. If you do and your boosted your doing good.

Well that block owes you nothing. You've done great with it, and it delivered for you. Now build her back up even stronger and I'm sure you will be setting many more personal bests.

I'm not doing a radical build, not trying to break any records. I want to get 300 runs on this motor, its made 713 rwhp and we backed it off to about 700 on my last dyno runs. I'm hoping some of you guys jump on Magnuson train as many other have. You'll be very happy with the results. I'm very happy with the 2300 and probably won't get a 2650 for a while and I know everybody is waiting on that SC and its gonna be a great SC that makes great power and torque. So if anyone is on the fence you can do a wicked build and make around 900 as gen6mike did and that's on a 2300 and he's driving it on the street.

I went back and found 172 et slips and I know my wife threw some away and I didn't keep all of them so I'm pretty close to my estimate. I'm on my second set of slicks and may not get to use them till next year if I can't get it done by the end of September. It will be close

I have heard there is this little vert hanging out down the street from you. If you start having withdrawal and need to hit the track...let me know. It's already got the Magnuson stickers, so I am pretty sure you are good to go.

I might need that for the LS Fest. Can I rent it since I know you like some wine or cocktails? Ha

It will not be a stroker but from the looks of the cylinder walls it may need a slight over bore, maybe ten thou over.

Some of you guys are short on empathy. The man's car is broken and that sucks.

As far as the crappy pistons, plenty of these LT1 engines have broken pistons. Too many with forced induction have broken pistons to ignore. I did not come up with the 'crappy' rating just from this breakage.

I like the fact that GM installed pistons designed for NA use in my NA car...theres no free lunch in the performance piston game and I don't want a less reliable engine long term so that a few can run more boost without failure. If I decided to go FI, I'd upgrade the pistons and connecting rods along with the ring package...there's no reason not to.

I think if more folks ran e85, less boost, and just spent the money on fuel system, there would be less failures. Aside from that most LT1's I have seen lose a piston were pushing the stock fuel system to the limit and then want to jump on the "crappy pistons" bandwagon.

I agree. I beat the shit out of my car and it never got hurt. 11psi with e85 got me 113mph in the 1/8th. I target .8 lambda so lots of e85.

That being said I don’t have any official 1/4 mile runs and probably only 30 or so full pulls on the street so that has to help it live.

That blue mule car is going to be running twins with a cam and filed rings. Stock crank, rods and pistons. It will be interesting to see how far he gets
