They say if you only plug the tire water can get into the tire causing the tire to rust and eventually will weaken and tire will blow , that's why you should also patch to stop water from entering.

wasn't aware that rubber could rust..


the real problem with patching is that the steel belts will start to separate.. and can cause a blowout.

The steel belts rust. If they are steel instead of nylon.

I would just plug it myself with a vucanizing mushroom plug kit. It plugs and patches at the same time.

I couldn't be more confused after reading these posts...having the same problem with screw in back tire about 2"in from edge...guess I can't go wrong with plug and a patch
