I think it's a nice car either way. Had I not just come from another turbo 4, I certainly might have ended up with the 4cyl Camaro. ... Would be nice to have a little better fuel economy, but that may just be the way I drive it

I think GM should have done more HP/TQ performance boosts over the 6th Gen lifetime...

When they ran the Ford GT earlier this year the temps were much lower at VIR, which is why you have two lap times for the Ford GT both slower then the ZR1 however one was much faster then the other. The Ford GT ran a 2:43.00 earlier in this year and in this run they only managed a 2:45.5.

The reason for this is what makes that faster time un-comparable to all of the other time at Car and Drivers lightning lap. They tend to run their event during the summer when temps are higher, when they ran the C7 Z06 there they said it was 100 degrees. With the higher temps the Ford GT just lost too much power resulting in speeds that were too low, sure the Corvettes also lost power there as well.

On top of that not being on the dust covered west coast tracks means that the ZR1 doesn't have the issue of putting power down. The ZR1 was destroyed at Willow and leguna seca raceway by the Ford GT where as at VIR the car beat the 720S. The Ford GT lap time is even slower then that of the C7 Z06 and yet they ran in comparable temperatures there.

Really the standout to me is that the Corvette C7 Grand Sport ran a 2:47.1 and yet the new Porsche 911 GT3 ran a 2:47.0. With the price difference that makes the Grand Sport a huge bargain and yet you can put some money into it with a head and cam package and really go fast.

I still can't wrap my head around 4cyl engines in muscle cars, no matter what kind of performance numbers it puts up.

I don't see why not. 4 cylinders now make more power than many of the V8s of yesteryear.
