Both Android Auto and Apple Car Play have text integration...Just connect your phone through USB and it will read texts to you and allow you to speak a reply

The texting app that was part of the stock MyLink setup has been deprecated ("removed").

Sending texts is now done via "Hey, Siri" or "Hey, Google" type wakeups and then directives to create and send a text. Incoming texts are available to be read out if you're using AA or CarPlay, but I believe you can only access those if the AA/CarPlay screen is actually -active-. Just connecting the phone isn't enough...

A quite sad state of affairs if you ask me, even if it's "inevitable"... I have the "old" 2.5 MyLink that still supports this, but no idea yet what I'll do about this when the time comes for the next car/truck in the family.

Depending on how the other system is set up and whether it supports OTA updates, it may just "go away" on you at some point.

TBH: The phones will always have a superior overall voice recognition and should generally be smoother and more accurate anyhow. Voice recognition in the Infotainment systems in cars sucks. Period.

Yeah, it's trying to curb the tide with a shovel, I know.

Actually, voice recognition works just fine in my 2018, my only problem is latency, it twiddles its virtual thumbs for 1-3 seconds before executing my commands. I just hate the idea of handing everything over to google or apple or amazon. They should get off my lawn
