PDR Component part numbers and install

Considering adding PDR to a non-PDR car? regardless of what GM or your dealership says - it can and has been done.

The cost to add the PDR at purchase of the vehicle was about $1400; installing PDR after purchase will cost more unless luck is on your side. Parts will need to be purchased, and some will need replaced with components out of a PDR donor vehicle or purchased new. As more of these cars get totaled out and parted used parts are becoming available.
Cost of parts only to install PDR is around $2100 with a used recorder, camera and display.

Wiring harness might need modifying / creating. I've found that if the car wasn't optioned with it, the wires don't exist. Not sure on the PDR... but it is the case on several other options.

the wires are on my list to find the numbers for.
my Nav unit was already updated with the PDR, it may be plug and play - I dont know. I emailed gen5diy about what else is needed, but they havent gotten back to me yet.
the dash has 2 different part numbers for with / without PDR. im not sure where the recorder actually sits - it may just be the difference of the SD card slot. if its just the SD card slot - im going to cut it. if the recorder mount area is not in my dash Ill have to change it.
I dont want to change the dash - but a mans got to do what a mans got to do; right???

Totally understand. I'm adding HUD to mine. So far have the top and front parts of the dash ordered. Waiting on all parts to come in before taking those dash covers apart. I'm hoping that the bracketry is at least the same regardless of HUD option. I'd hate to have to modify the framing of the dash to mount the HUD.

Does the instrument panel also include the SD card socket?

You'll also need the PDR-specific windshield. It appears to be 84133729. Given only HUD cars are able to have PDR, it appears logically correct.

I went to the dealership today to get some help from the parts guy.
I cannot find any diagrams online for any of this stuff.

I was able to buy the recorder bracket, recorder antenna, short recorder harness and the SD Card receptacle. Total for these was $390 from the dealer, so Im in near $1500 at this point, not including the money I spent to buy the navigation I added to the vehicle from gen5diy.

Based on what I was told, the Dash harness is different on the PDR cars; the PDR wiring is integrated into the harness.

I posted diagrams a few posts above. Part numbers to wire terminals are in there. You'd have to add wiring to the harness.

I meant parts diagram on the parts website so I can see what I was buying, and how it went together.

I did look at and appreciate your help with the attachments you posted.

Ive attached the recorder connector images. on one end it has a greay and black connector, which ive bought the short harness (84030546) and on the other end it has the recorder antenna and 3 micros usb ports. the camera just has one micro usb as well.

based on your file, the black connector must be for the camera, and clearly the SD Card reader must plug into one of the others. maybe the extra one is left un-used but the diagram the dealer gave me shows harness number 7 using all the ports.

I guess Ill know more when I pull the covers off the dash next weekend after the recorder and other parts arrive.

Hello, I am looking to do the same upgrade on my Camaro, do you know if the parts list is different on the convertible? I assume most of the parts will be the same but the camera mounting might be different, I cannot seem to locate any real documentation on the parts list for the PDR outside of the above.

Here are a few items I was able to find:

Vehicle Performance Data Recorder Malfunction:
Display Malfunction
 1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the K161 Performance Data Recorder.
 2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 12 and ground.
⇒ If 10 Ω or greater
2.1. Ignition OFF.
2.2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
⇒ If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
⇒ If less than 2 Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.

I'm still trying to figure out why the PDR option wasn't available for the Convertibles. I don't see anything so far that would eliminate it from the verts.

I just ordered all the parts guess we will find out shortly I know they offered it on the Vert Corvette, as I owned one in the past. Any additional info anyone finds out would be great and I will post back any of my updates after all my parts come in. I did get the PDR out of a CTS-V so fingers crossed it should be the same one it's a different part number vs what was listed above.
