People, just look for a 50/50 mix that is Dex Cool compatible! This isn’t rocket science you know!

I know this is an old post but figured I'd provide my 2 cents. If I read the owner's manual correctly, the coolant system isn't as closed as what we are all probably used to and evaporation should be anticipated. My experience is that 1/2 to a full cup is needed after a track weekend in the heat (Texas). As for coolant, I purchased a gallon of Dex Cool from the Chevy dealer for less than $20 plus some distilled water and do the 50/50 mix (again Texas). The coolant is orange but turns pink/red when mixed with water and run through the system. I have used about half of the gallon over the last 3 years and I track a substantial amount (30 days per year). Just keep the lower tank half full - you can just pour (slowly) into the top tank and it will drain down to fill the lower tank.

Padge23, Thanks for the heads up . I don't frequent the track, but not out of the equation on a Camaro Club day in the future sometime.

Thanks everyone for the help! I have had 3 Camaro, a 2000, and 2015 and to be 100% honest never check or added coolant!

But in 2017 got a Convertible v6 and since I never thought about it until last week and when I went to look the top tank was 1/2" below the Cold Fill line and the bottom was bone dry. I only have 52K and do mostly longer driving and live in the midwest. But read this forum and got some Dexcool 50/50 and added it to the bottom tank to it's fill line and topped off the top, so thank you!!

I never got a over temp warning but was very surprised that the top tank was below the fill line and got worried when a few said that there is a leak or Head Gasket issue, so I check the dip stick and had no cloudy and since I do my own oil changes never have seen cloudy oil.

So from what I understand this is normal to have the top tank up to 1/2 an inch below the cold fill line? I did fill it and 1/2 way on the bottom tank I started the car for and with the top cap off it started to rise when it got hotter and the small top hose was getting very warm while the larger radiator hose was cool. Then after about 5 min I shut off the engine and the coolant level went down when it got cooler.

This sound normal?

Thank you everyone!
Christopher

Yes, top tank should be full. Bottom tank should be to the line shown in the picture.

DI water (Deionized Water) is a no go for your coolant system!!! DI water will eat your Aluminum radiator and any metal it contacts short of Stainless Steel.....perhaps you mean Distilled water?

Normal is: 1) Top tank completely full, 2) Bottom tank half full.

Yes it's counterintuitive. Chevy_Things(TM).

This stuff does evaporate. The bottom I had exactly at the half mark in probably December of last year. I recently topped it off with some dexcool, not alot but maybe 8-10oz max

Funny to see this because I checked my oil the other day and noticed my overflow tank was 3/4 empty. Really surprised me because I've always thought the coolant system was a closed system, unless you have a leak.
