so, i would have to try to squeeze the 12599 in there then

then only other option is to run a pair of resonators after my current X

Which you can do, but it won't be nearly as quiet as having a muffler in there. Resonators have no packing so they do very little to quiet the exhaust, the are used to help tame unwanted resonant frequencies.

Who ever I spoke to at Magnaflow yesterday said that neither were a true X, I don't know why we are getting different answers from different sales/tech guys, that's frustrating, but either way, my remote tuner said not to worry about it all for my build at least, but I'll be only around 720whp

I tend to believe this. I don't think its a restriction at all at that power level.

That’s the true resonator by definition but in my experience, a high number of these “resonators” (borla, volant, etc) have packing and reduce volume, rather than only filter a targeted frequency, so they will reduce overall volume to some extent

I haven't seen one yet with packing that will fit our application. With a 4" diameter body which is all that will fit in the tunnel area, there's no room inside for packing with a 3" straight through pipe design, that would only leave a .5" or less on each side of the internal pipe for packing which would do nothing at all. SLP Loud Mouth 2 is a bullet style muffler with 4" body and has some packing but the internal pipe is 2.5" because of it. That being said, a longer resonator will make more of a volume difference than a shorter one, but its still rather small compared to an actual muffler with internal packing.

Got it, ya it’s a shame the borla isn’t 3”. That’s got a good amount of packing in it.

It would be interesting if packing could be added to the center section of the npp. There’s just much more space in the suitcase to work with

I have wondered this too. Could they have made the one chamber even quieter for stealth modes etc?

An update for you guys, the MBRP R1017 made the exhaust sound quite a bit better in terms of tone, got rid of a little volume but not a ton. The best working muffler was the Jones muffler, but with that going back to the dual Y design and not the true x, that is not an ideal option at this time.

For most people, the dual MBRP R1017's will be just enough, but if you have old man ears like myself, then it still needs a little work

Yeah must be a massive choke point. I'm only at 927 WHP through it...

Yea, I suspected the resonators wouldn't quite be enough for you.

Thanks for the update, I need a significant reduction in volume due to track Db limits, so Magnaflow it is for me

Exactly
