It does have a more efficient transmission with 8 gears though. Perhaps the HP to the ground will be about the same, with less torque...more gears helps that less torque.

I do agree, it won't be as fast on average. But it will be pretty close.

So what do you think it is going to weigh? If the car has truly lost close to 300 pounds as stated in very public interview with Al O, the V6 base would weigh under 3,450 pounds. I'd guess an automatic equipped 2LT would weigh 3,500ish or more.

You don't believe it...fine, but this thread is based on what was stated by a high ranking GM exec, so that's what we are going to discuss here.

Anyways...

Something to think about.

The 2009 Nissan 370Z (330HP/270TQ) runs a 13.3 in MT testing with a 6 speed manual, weighing 3,355 pounds. Now, I don't know what the final drive ratio is on that car, but I believe it is numerically higher than the Camaro manual will have. So...add 100 pounds and a more mpg friendly final drive ratio....should equate to 13.5 to 13.7 easy.

The same 2009 Nissan, but with the seven speed automatic weighs 3,368. Ran a 13.1 at 108mph in Car and Driver testing. Again, likely has slightly numerically higher gearing and weighs roughly 100 pounds less. Should equate to around a 13.3 to 13.5 quarter mile for the Camaro....all else being the same.

The 370z has high some high 12 second hero runs on street tires.

As for comparing to the 4th gen. I still give the 4th gen SS (especially manual) the advantage, but it shouldn't be nearly as great of an advantage as the 5th gen V6.

EDIT:

370z 7speed auto has a 3.357 ratio, whereas the new 8 speed V6 will be 2.77. That's a sizeable difference but with the extra gear lessening the ratios between the first 4 gears, I can't imagine it would add more than 1 or 2 seconds to the 1/4...all else being the same. The turbo 4 8 speed will have a 3.23.....maybe a swap to the V6 will be in order lol.

You can't just look at what the ring and pinion gear ratio is. You need to look at the trans gearing in relation to rear end gearing and tire height. Saying that, the 370Z has much better gearing than a 6th gen V6. Just like against the LS1 4th gen, I think it will be slightly slower than a 370Z but not by much. I agree the car needs more rear gear. 3.42-3.73 gears to help that V6's lack of torque would go along way I think.
This is the 370Z's effective gearing and it isn't even factoring in the tire height difference which would make it even better vs the 6th gen V6.
1st-16.52
2nd-10.72
3rd-6.85
4th-4.74

Like I said earlier. If the weight holds up I think we will see low 13's hero times. Mag times will probably be in the mid-high 13's but noticeably quicker than the Ecoboost.

The days of a 3400lbs Camaro died in 2002.

The heaviest Cadillac ATS (non V) has AWD and comes in at 3,461 lbs. I believe. I'm not sure why people would question the LT Camaro coming in at around that if Al O. says the weight loss is near 300 lbs. over the Gen 5. After all, that's two data points suggesting 3,4xx as the weight.

There's no awd ATS that weighs 3,461 pounds.

I've noticed you make a lot of pretty definitive statements with nothing to back it up.

Coupes.. 2.0 AWD starts at 3,571. 3.6 AWD starts at 3,693 according to curb weight.

I'm not sure how a 2.0 and 3.6 Camaro would weigh the same judging by ATS weights.

AWD adds about 160 pounds.

AWD adds about 160 pounds.
That's my point. AWD (as well as extra sound deadening and luxury items) adds weight. So if you take 3,571 and take away 160 lbs you get 3,411 lbs. How is it hard to believe the 6th Gen LT will be in the 3,4xx range?
