Is Buying a 2017 ZL1 Worth It?
A local dealer has a 2017 ZL1 with 29k miles (manual transmission). It’s price is in the low 50s. I’m wondering, will this still be a reliable car? The miles are relatively low, but I know the warranty is now expired and I’ve read online that this year and 2018 were known for oil pump failures. How concerned should I be about that? Is it worth still buying or avoiding? It’s a clean title, no damage, pristine condition. Car-fax checks out, has had 3 owners. Thanks for any feedback!

I mean, you could just work with them on the price a little, and then have a good shop swap out the oil pump - it's not a hugely expensive job, and you'll have the peace of mind.

I don't have much advise on purchasing a used car as I really never have and only bought new. That leads me to the reason I've never bought used high performance car. Unless you know who owned it, you just don't know how bad or not it was driven by the previous owner(s). But as far as the one your looking at. My buddy at Ricart Chevrolet says with that mileage, if the car is clean its a good price in the low 5$0K and as much as top of $50K

The low 50s price range for a 2017 ZL1 with 29k miles is in line with current market values. However, you may be able to negotiate a lower price if you have concerns about the potential for repairs.
Overall, whether or not to buy the 2017 ZL1 depends on your priorities and risk tolerance. If you prioritize performance and are willing to take on the potential risks and costs of owning a high-performance sports car, then this could be a good choice. However, if you prioritize reliability and low maintenance costs, you may want to consider other options. I bought used, but a 2021, it's a fantastic car. I don't know if I see the point in the ZL1 if it's not going to see a track. But people buy them with a drop top so, different strokes for different folks. |

As someone who looking to get into a ZL1 on a budget. Getting a bone stock 2017 was the only way. I purchased mine with 33k on it for low 50s. I already have a Katech pump sitting in my garage ready to go. I don't have a ton of money to buy new like some of these guys here but I can turn a wrench and that's my insurance on the oil pump. I have plans to Cam and replace the oil pump in the car but that is a year or two out... Unless it happens sooner. I just watch the oil gauge like a hawk. I've even road coursed the car, no issues. I have no started it this year tho..... please say a prayer for my oil pump on first spring start.

I'm with BunnyBoy. I have never bought a new performance car- I have always bought used. I think it depends on your tolerance. I wouldn't hesitate on a used 2017, but that's me. I bought mine sight unseen last year, and had it delivered. Granted, I had a LOT of extra pictures taken, and asked a LOT of extra questions, but it's been everything I expected it to be.
So, for me, if you're the kind of person that just wants to drive it, take it in for oil changes and regular maintenance, and are concerned about a warranty, then maybe you want a new car. If you are going to mod it, like turning wrenches, and/or own one of those shirts that says "I am the warranty" then do your due diligence on the 2017 and go get it if it fits the bill! I'm in the "I am the warranty" camp (though I don't have the t-shirt...)

I say if you want it go ahead and get it. I bought mine back in 2019 used with 425 miles and it has been trouble free. Mine is stock with the exception of a RotoFab intake and it has almost 25,000 miles so far. I do keep a check on the oil pressure though and make sure I change the oil myself but I haven’t had any issues as of now with my 2017!
