V6 and V8 owners, How often do you use Sports Mode?
I have a 1LT V6 but I find Sports Mode almost useless on my street and at times even highway commute, here is why.. I don't really got enough room to open it up, and when I do... Im going to be doing something wildly illegal in a suburban or urban highway before I really reap the benefit of it.
My car has 2.77 rear axel gears and won't even shift into 8th gear until 55 MPH. There is a significantly large gap between 7th and 8th gear where but between 20 and 45 MPH you can take almost any single gear up to that speed, so you don't really get the thrill of feeling it shift through gears unless you're ready to really top it out. I did a test today and found I am holding 80 MPH at about 1.7K RPM In comparison, my 99 Camaro Z28 (LS1) does it at about 2.3K RPMS and my mothers Infiniti G37 does it at about 2.7K RPMS. My 2017 Camaro pulled off 41 MPG all highway (with me actually trying to see how well it could do) with the gearing and DoD combined.. I was completely blown away by this, NEVER had a car with that much fuel mileage. But accelleration wise, I don't really get any opportunity to really "push" this car to its limits at roads where traffic is restricting me to 50 - 60 MPH.. feels like you really have to be ready to top this car out before Sports Mode really becomes anything useful... It still accelerates quite well for how its geared even in Touring Mode, I have personally found it more effective to just use the Auto Shifter when I want quick bursts of acceleration. Opinions? |

My car is an M6 FYI but I like the throttle response much better in Sport or Track mode compared to Touring, especially when blipping the throttle for downshifts. The throttle tip in in Touring mode seems very lazy to me and I didn't buy a Camaro to try to get maximum MPG all the time lol.
I believe Sport mode on the A8 cars affects the shift points as well, so even when you're not flooring it it'll keep the car in the power band more of the time.

I use track mode and sport mode equally.. never in tour. Doesn't matter if rush hour or not.. depends on dry or wet roads.

I tried out touring for a bit. Kept bogging the car. Too quiet and the throttle sucks.

M6 SS here and it's Sport mode all the time. I prefer it for the steering weight, throttle response and it keeps the NPP exhaust open when I prefer it..

I usually stick with Tour on the way into work - bit more laid back, better for taking it easy going into the office. Plus the roads here in southeastern PA are crap, which the Tour setting for the MRC helps smooth out.
When the day is done & it's time to go home, I'm in Sport - time to have some fun! For other driving (activities/errands/just because), it's in Sport. Unless the road is pretty smooth, then Track. |

Sport on my daily commute on the highway. I have designated spots where I can open it up with one eye on my rear view.
