hood detailer

Hi there 1LE owners.

I was shopping for cleaners for my car and i came across this.

https://www.lenosgarage.com/products/matte-detailer

I dont have a 1LE(yet) but i always wondered how hard it was to keep that hood wrap clean. Looks like a decent cheap option.

Ah, the factory hood wrap. At least on my car, the wrap quality was terrible, and the edges were wrinkled and pulling away from the hood basically as it left the lot. Combining that with its propensity to store fingerprints like it's some sort of car-hood detective and being a pain to clean, I went drastic on mine. I had the hood wrap removed and replaced with a satin black wrap covered by xpel stealth. Now it still looks awesome, but cleans like a regular car. The hood also now matches the spoiler, skirts, and front lip. 10/10 would do again.

EDIT: I have heard good things about Adam's version, though. https://adamspolishes.com/adam-s-mat...ler-combo.html

I have been using Adams Matte Detailer every wash and Adams Matte Protectant every few months with very good results.

I do plan on getting matte PPF on the hood when I get the other areas done.

Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte detail spray works really well for me. I wash the hood like normal (like the rest of the car) and then prop it up to drip dry. Then I finish drying with my drying towel and then use some of the MM if there are any spots or streaks left over. Works well on the mirrors, splitter, and spoiler too.

I'm just going to get matte ppf. The material is about $250, so probably $500-600 to get it done professionally. I'm going to do it myself, but it'll be a pita cutting and wrapping it around the edges of the hood.

Luckily the factory wrap on my car looks really good. It seems to clean easily with just carwash soap and water.

Be sure to check the edges when you have the hood open. Mine was "wrinkled" along the almost all of the edges, which makes it very hard to get xpel to stay attached.

The wrinkles are standard. They're an aerodynamic feature that helps the front end stick better at speeds over 100 mph.

Just kidding - every wrapped Camaro hood I've seen is like that. The solution is for the Xpel installer to extend the wrap a little past the wrinkles to hold everything in place. That's what they did on mine, and I haven't had any problems.

I think they improved the process, mine is basically perfect. My car was delivered on 9/10/18. If you cut the PPF where the vinyl wrap ends you have a small margin for error when cutting but it's doable, it'll just take some time to finish the edges. If you bring it past the wrap it'll need to also extend past the soft adhesive and onto the plastic hood liner.

I did find some less expensive matte PPF (link below). Considering it's matte PPF with a vinyl sticker underneath not sure I care to spend 2x the price on XPEL Stealth or Suntek. I called them and if you order two 3ft pieces and note that you want it all one piece you'll get a 5ft x 6ft piece for $132.

I haven't found a need for a detailer beyond wash shampoo and a chamois though I have a bottle of something specifically for matte wrap I don't use it.

Same here although I don't have the protectant since it's been discontinued.

This is what I use also but it's not good for removing stains. I have some permanently stained bug guts embedded in the front of mine, not sure how to remove.

I've been using the Chemical Guys Meticulous Matte detailer after a wash with good results.
