Well, I guess there's that . . . though I doubt that I'd gamble a third time.

There's a little back story going on here - I did go a second round with Nissan's Maxima after having to go into the 1987 car's transmission three times for input bearing failures that occurred on about a 50,000 mile (80,000km?) schedule. After doing two of those repairs myself (for about the same total cost as the dealer charged me for the first one) my best guess as to the cause was an improperly machined bellhousing or rear face of the block. The 2001 Max never threw any mechanical problems at us. But I won't be going there a third time - all Maximas now run a CVT transmission and everybody here ought to be aware of my preference regarding transmission choice.

the ford cortinas here had coil springs not leaf springs.
in fact if you look the 1975 taunus had double wishbone fronts..so in fact better than the s197.
Rear suspension is more about axle location and suspension geometry than spring type. Though this get a bit muddled when the springs also do double-duty as the axle locating components.

That double wishbone is technically superior to the over MacStrut I'll give you - most of the time. But like many things in suspension design the devil is in the details. Some double wishbone suspensions feature geometry that's already in the toilet as far as cornering and handling is concerned. Try to imagine upper and lower link inclinations that result in positive camber gain on the outside tire - actively rolling the tire over considerably more than the car itself is rolling and putting that tire even further over on its sidewall as opposed to working against roll to retain some camber sanity.

Both the Mustang and the Camaro have employed Mac Struts ever since the Fox-body and third gen. Even in the top-handling trims. Just sayin' . . .

I'm afraid that's a mindset I just don't understand. If I want a car badly enough to pay good money for it, I'll buy it to keep without regard to resale. Going in, if I'm not convinced that I'm still going to enjoy whatever car well into the future, that car doesn't get bought.

I understand this. I think all of my cars fell into that category except that for some of them retirement for me was anywhere from 25 to 40+ years away. Just for reference, in less than a year I'll have been effectively retired for ten years. and I've never regretted any of the car choices we made.

I debated between a 2013 Boss and a newer SS for a while. I absolutely love how special the Boss is, how it looks, and its track capability. I had an S550 and my brother had a 2013 white boss. The shifter isn't as terrible as people say, can always go MGW and new clutch to fix it. As soon as I drove my 1SS 1LE, it wasn't even a decision. The 2019 1LE is a better car all around, as it should be. Tech, tremec, tire etc etc.

However, if it was between Boss and v6 1LE, I would go Boss all day. I still look at the Gotta Have It Green and Schoolbus yellow Boss on facebook. I will eventually pick one up.

What i find very curious is the guys that own several of the same brand guitar, down to the same model with the same specs.

Guitar Acquisition Syndrome (GAS) is real.

If I could afford it, I would already have a Camaro, Mustang and Challenger in my stable.
i speak from experience, owning a strat,tele,3 gibsons and a couple of epis.yes,GAS is real, and not just for cars.

I am. But I have owned four in the past and currently lurk on Bring-a-Trailer for an opportunity to steal a GT350.

Two Alembics, two Music Man, a Fender, a Hanewinckel, and a Marchlewski here. More money than talent.

Also guilty of both GAS and lack of talent. Have a Squire Strat, Epi Les Paul, Yamaha acoustic and an Ibanez bass sitting here staring at me as I type. At least they're cheaper than cars!

Check out the Alembic price list and let me know if you still feel that way. I have a 4-string Series I and a 5-string Series II.

Well technically, I meant mine were less expensive than cars - I was thinking vintage collector guitars would be outside of it, wasn't thinking of true professional grade equipment. Even my Epi LP costs more than some beaters, though

I'd take the Boss. That's just the V8 guy in me as I am not a Mustang guy at all.
