Getting Oil Change which Coupon?
Getting Oils Change Tomorrow
Get dealer oil change tomorrow and have coupons for Dexos1 8qt for $60 and Mobil1 8qt for $90. Of course our cars take 10qts so I know I will also pay extra for the additional 2 qts. My question is what should I go with? My car will never be tracked though I bang through gears pretty hard when nothing is in front or in back of me. Since not tracking is Mobile 1 over kill and can my engine be safe and secure with the Dexos 1 in knowing the car is not pampered when driven, especially in this 100deg heat. |

Same here, unless the first "Dexos 1" you mentioned for $60 is just a cheaper brand oil. (Which it clearly is because it's $60 and M1 is $90). I don't know the brand though, so I can't recommend it, but our cars require Dexos. FWIW, I use Mobil 1 5w30 or 0w40, which is Dexos approved, so I would go Mobil 1.

Just use the first one. Dexos approval falls within a very small range of parameters, so you're just paying for the name at that point.

I'd still go with Mobil1 because it's just what I've always used and it's a good oil (so, just a personal preference thing), but ACDelco will be fine. So, it's just a matter on if you want to spend $30 or save $30 I suppose.

Right now, Costco is selling two-packs of 5qt jugs (10qt total) for $29.99 minus a $3.00 coupon, delivered. Limit 5 2-packs. Yes, you're reading that right. I can buy 50 quarts of oil, enough to do FIVE oil changes on my car, for $135. Shipped. To my door. Full synthetic, Dexos, 5W-30 ("Street use"). Five oil changes for about $200, including the filters, if I do them myself. That's $40 per oil change. Why would I take it anywhere to have it done? |

So with the type of driving he does which I suspect is quite frisky, he will be completly protected with the AC Delco? Does chevy put ACdelco Dexos in the Corvettes when testing or are they using Mobile 1?

"If 0W-40 dexos2 oil is not available, SAE 5W-30 dexos1 full synthetic engine oil may be used for street use." "Frisky" driving and track use are not the same - track is much more demanding. 0W-40 dexos2 seems to be quite a bit more difficult to find and also a lot more expensive. Many of the listings on sites like Walmart.com only offer the dexos2-labeled product as individual quart containers for as much as $15 each. IMHO, 5W-30 should be perfectly fine unless you're on the track (it certainly should be for me as I don't drive the car hard). I'm more concerned about ensuring that off-label products (like the Kirkland brand I mentioned previously) displaying the dexos1 badge appropriately. |

Dexos 1 is the same as Mobil 1. It's made by Exxon Mobil for GM. You're just paying for the name. The dealer should know this.

Mobil1 is a brand name while dexos1 is a standard. There are plenty of dexos1 oils that are not Mobil1 while there are also plenty of Mobil1 oils that are not dexos1 compliant. |

I don’t know where you get your inaccurate information from but I was a technician at a GM dealership for over 18 years and I know this as fact. Don't spread rumors or misinformation that you've read somewhere. Im not here to argue with with people who are trying to tell me something I know as fact. Don't tell me an apple is an orange. Discussion over on my end.

GM calls their oil AC Delco Dexos. I think that is where the confusion is.
