Crimp area and dod exhaust valve removal

I removed these sections and replaced them with smooth pipe. I doubt there is any hp gain but maybe there will be later when I am making more power. Took about 3 hours and about $70 in material. It might be a hair louder with the cut outs open but I am not sure. You can just barely hear the 4cylinder mode but it is mostly drowned out by wind and tire noise.

Cat delete, e85, tune are next.

But from what I've read on the corvette forums and from members here, you can not tune out the codes for the afm valves. That's why stainless works incorporated dummy valves on theirs. So you're stuck with a permanent CEL

Yup. You gained nothing except a CEL you can't tune out.

I have plans for twins and that crimped area can't help post turbo. I may also pipe the cut out so it completely skips the muffler. Are there any pics of her muffler cut open?

Btw that crimped area is not just squished on the top. It is also squishing on the bottom some and not flat but pushed in some on the top.

I didn't know that about the cel but I figured it was a possiablility. I may dummy the acuators under there.

Not true about tuning out AFM. I just got mine back from a good tuner performance shop. They completely turned off AFM without modding anything mechanically. They have been doing it in the stingrays as well that they tune. Car runs better and no CEL.

It's possible to successfully tune it out, you just need a really good tuner.

Yes, AFM can be turned off in the tune but if you delete the AFM valves and just leave them unplugged, you will get a CEL that can not be tuned out.

Ah, I see. Good thing I didn't get those removed when I put in headers.

Reviving this old thread for anyone google searching this topic. The AFM valves are not needed. They can be tuned out in the FSCM. It'll cost another credit to unlock it but can be done.

The crimped sections don't affect your dyno runs. Why bother?

Do you have a picture of the valve assembly looking into the end of the pipe?

Curious as if they can be fully closed or if the valve was partially cut out?

The valve closes all the way but there is a dime sized hole in the middle of the plate

You can unnbolt the motors, plug them in, and then zip the them off to the side.

I did this same thing and got beat up by everyone saying it won't help anything and you wasted your money. There are test out there that show no gains on a stock motor. Holly sells a kit to do what you and I have done stating some gains. I've not seen any test with modded engines to say if it helps or not. In my case I didn't like the noise it made when the valves were opening. It almost seemed like they were waiting on pressure to build before opening then they would open. It didn't sound right so I had them removed. It didn't cost much and I have hptuners so I had the available credit to tune it out in the FSCM. Perhaps we'll never build enough exhaust pressure to make a difference but if you flow tested the bent pipe and a smooth pipe with no bends there's no way the bent pipe can flow as well as the smooth one.
