A8 Stock - I saw people say to hold trans in 4th

gear but are using drive. How is this done? Do you slide the shifter to the left when the car is in 4th? How do you know it's in 4th?

Thanks

Yes, slide it to the left to manually hold it. The gear indicator is on the dash display.

If you are running stock tires then you will probably hit the rev limiter too soon. With stock tires it looks like around ~111 might be where it shuts off in 4th.

Mine hit the rev limiter with slicks at 121. SS is right you will hit the rev limiter early, how much I don't know on street tires.

Mine shifts into 5th every single time just before the line, but not enough to where I could hold it. The chart I found with the gearing for the A8 says the 6500 RPM limiter is right at 114 MPH. Most of my stock passes were 114-115 in the summer, but once the cooler weather came around and the car is making a little more power, I was trapping 117-118 so holding in 4th was not an option with stock power.

Ok, thanks. Doesn't look like it will help me being that I have stock wheels.

It's not an option. The chart GM listed is wrong. They used the advertised tire height of the tire. The tire is not truly that tall. 6,500 in 4th is 110-111 at best. The tires on the car at weight are 26.83" tall. That is also the math in the ECM/TCM. You can't hold 4th on stock tires.
