Yep just like my C5 Z06 after the warranty I changed the valve springs and then my C6 Z06 I had to get the heads done. Seems like it’s always something with them. They didn’t do anything then so why would they now.

Yeah - except when your oil pump fails there is risk of damage to the engine, even if minor, which is not covered under warranty. They just put the same flawed pump back in, which as we have seen can fail again

People will drop tons of money into their cars, but balk at getting the oil pump fixed. $8K for wheels, $3K for exhaust, $6K for PPF, etc.

$3K to replace the pump with the Katech unit seems like a deal to me. There are other cars out there with much worse known, systemic problems, that cost significantly more than $3K to rectify.

What IF all I want is the FKN car to work like its supposed to without 8K in wheels or 3K in exhaust?

Why *should* I have to install a AFTERMARKET part at 22,000 or 29,000 miles to bandaid a factory defect? At this point GM should be like.. oh shit our pump is trash, let's OEM the Katech pump and call it done.

But no.. let's kick can down the road so next time it breaks, the customer is on hook for pump and maybe the motor.

What it means for me.. this is FIRST and probably LAST GM product. One and DONE.

Yeah, but then you'll get a Ford with transmission issues, or a Volks-aud-orghini-sche with flux capacitor issues, etc. etc.

I ate a sh!t sandwich on a Ford transmission at one point, but that's been the only car I ever had issues with. I think it's a numbers game of chance, and unfortunately you got the raw end of the deal on this car.

Could happen on any car. I wouldn't write off another Ford just because my one car had issues. Similar chances with any brand, I'd say. And those chances are generally pretty small in my opinion. I'm sure people disagree, but that's my take on it.

There was a day, long ago when a mfg would recognize a defective part especially one in a scenario which could lead to loss of life and/or bodily harm and make good on it via an internal campaign. When you make any major purchase, you at least expect the parts to be engineered accordingly. My 17 is not my daily and I will change mine out with a Ktech pump.

No more brand loyalty anymore.
Steal your money and run. No auto manufacturers care about the return customer anymore!

Dealers are often the worst with the slash and burn, one and done way of doing business.

Came back to look a get the latest update. Was hoping GM would step up and at least engineer a pump that would not break. This is typical GM. Been doing this over 40 years now. C5 Z06, valve springs. Not that big of a deal but still, for that kind of money you have expectations. C6 Z06, dropped valves. Still to this day the 427 is an icon from the 60's. GM had an awesome engine and then F's up the heads. Result? People left with no explanation and surely worn guides on the horizon. Bi-metal bearings in 2012 to satisfy the European union. So now, 2012 and 2013 Z06 have Ti content in the oil from the rods rubbing together. C6, ZR1, carbon rotors out of balance .Let's continue. C7 Z06. New 8 speed transmission is a disaster. From 2015 to 2018 at cruise speeds, we get a "Shudder". Torque converter lock up slipping. Plain and simple. We get the new LV fluid because it's a miracle oil. My rear. It's loaded with friction additives that keep the convertor from chattering similar to old school limited slip rear axles. Remember? We used to add a small amount of limited slip additive to cure the issue. C7 bent rims. I would think for $100k, GM could install a set of forged wheels up front or at least have an option. Gentlemen, GM will not step up. They were done with us when we left the lots. It's all about the money. If you are thinking of a ZL1, factor in the price of an oil pump replacement.

Or, you know, spend $70K on a ZL-1, and have it destroy itself while you drive it, 2000 miles from home while on vacation. #thatsucks. #gmpleasedobetter. #ifonlygmspentanextra25centsontheoilpumps.
