LT4 High Pressure Fuel Pump

So it's the time of year where some guys/gals are looking to add some boost to the stock setups. Maybe add a maggie, whipple, or procharger..... but in doing so, you look at upgrading the fuel system to feed the beast. Thus on a stock LT1 motor, you look at the LT4 high pressure pump as a direct replacement on the high side. Problem is... there is a nationwide shortage of this part! Normally this part costs ~$700.00 but for those few vendors that actually have them, you see prices north of $1000-1500... I get it. Classic supply and demand, but dang... where does the PRICE GOUGING stop? It is ridiculous

Skip the LT4 crap altogether and just add the TooHighPSI port setup now and be done with it. If that had been available when I did mine it would have saved a crap ton of money vs the high end DI stuff (that you’ll have to eventually do because the LT4 stuff won’t carry a lot of steam with high E levels).

Not running any appreciable amount of E it won’t. Given the OP has a SBE LT1, running E is a no brainer.

I get your point Josh, and I probably would've considered it as well back last year. My only concern is the standalone ECM and the added complexity/failure points, I would be so much happier if the stock GM unit supported port injection at least in concept (the way it does support flex fueling, even though no Camaro trim comes with that)...

...might be just me overthinking it, but how do you get a unified data log, for example? Does the port setup have associated channels posting to the bus so VCM scanner can capture everything in one go?

Putting the TooHighPSI port injection plate under the Whipple 3.0 may cause hood clearance issues. The clearance has not been verified with the new Whipple yet. The other option was to put port injection bungs on the Whipple which Whipple has done for the Street Rod versions I believe. I did not look into those additional costs.

There are clearence issues with port injection and ZL1 hood clearence but Too High Psi has that figured out as well.

Yes, they have it works well and nothing complex about it. Just go watch the video on the setup and many tuners who thought it would have been a pain figured the tuning out pretty quickly. Nothing wrong with a stand-alone controller when it works as advertised and over delivers as it did in my case and probably more than Stefano thought it would, not now cause it makes a believer out of you. New Era did one with stock Lt1 fuel system, forged Lt1, heads and cam, made over 1040 rwhp, A10 trans. I think Mike was even blow away it would make that much power, he knows more about the build because he was there while Alex was dialing it in. Now that proof is in the pudding and it tastes so good.
Forgot to mention it did have a 2650. I hope the 3.0 with plates will fit under the hood.

I am currently installing the 3.0 whipple and it came with a kit to lower the engine cradle some. I am assuming this is to fit the unit under the stock hood. It's also a PIA to drop the entire cradle to add some shims and new bolts. Either way. whipple told me they were working on port injection for this. I am assuming this will come via drilled injector bongs since the intake runners on these can be remove from the rest of the unit.

True but most here are not like you and consider running 12.00 a gallon race fuel a viable option for a streetcar. LT4 pump is done around 750whp on E85or 800whp on E60, 850whp on pump 93 and 900+ on race gas. The problem with 850whp on 93 is it's going to be very sensitive to temperature and conditions. Chances are that setup wouldn't make that power consistently... So let's keep this all-in perspective before posting snippets of info that really need more detail.

Then as Josh pointed out the OP's car is a SBE LT1 which really needs E.

I appreciate all the information and spirited conversation about the LT4 HP fuel pump with sidebar regarding E. Everyone's build is going to be different and with normal $$$ constraints, so I respect how many different approaches can be taken for the same general end goal.

I must say that was a surprise on the Whipple and the cradle drop. How much do the shims actually lower it? Is this in small print or did you know this when you ordered it? Disclaimer? That changes drive train angles, exhaust, etc. I doubt it changes much but enough to be a pain as stated above and most
won't want to do this in the garage and may have to pay someone to do it which will add bucks to the build.
