Right, but if you're talking about road course tires, there are other options. For drag racing, street driving and even the occasional twisties, the 555R2 is the best available. A road course tire is made for just that. A drag radial is made for just that. There are compromises when venturing outside of those design purposes.

Is it for the most part only good for straight-line acceleration and grip?

Thanks,

They do just fine cornering short of trying to set a track record at the Ring. I know many people that road course the 555R2 very happily. It probably won't quite compare with the SC3R but that tire is meant for road racing.

Are you saying the sidewall on 555R2 drag radial handles better in turns than the R888R which is designed to be a circuit track tire for racing and HPDE road course duty?

I've never run R888R on circuit but I did use the predecessor, R888 and they weren't as good as Hankook TD, Hoosier, etc but other people I know people got some VERY fast laps on these at Buttonwillow, Willow Springs and Auto Club Speedway where I run.

I don't know anyone using 555R2 drag radials for this kind of circuit track duty and no fast laps listed on the forums I follow.

I agree but it just so happens that the r888r is the best all around tire not the 555r2. It does beyond well in straight line, really good for track days, and no problems at high speeds and cornering on the streets. It's still the best tire if your trying to do all 3 with out swapping tires.

No, I'm not saying that at all. I said, the 555R2 will provide better straight line acceleration and still provide very good cornering capability along with some wet weather capability.

It's the best I've owned and the only tire that has little if any spin on a dig once warm, when compared to all previous tires.

I’ve been doing track days for 20y and have run almost every tire.

The r888r is, bar far, the worst tire I’ve ever tracked.

Not commenting on straight line/drag performance, but garbage at the track.

Not exactly answering your questions, but the PS4S tires were vastly better than the Nitto NT05 tires that I ran on my C5Z. For some reason the NT05 was the popular tire on that car. They didn’t last long, and they lost a ton of grip as they began to wear.

Which doesn't make a lot of sense because didn't the NT05 come stock on the Demon for a while?

You're not the first person I've heard say that at all. I don't necessarily think that any tire is the best at all things, per se. But I know how much they improved my straight line traction while still allowing me to dip turns at a relatively decent G. ~1.25-1.3 consistently. I didn't have any confidence in them past that point or on poor/bad surfaces.
