Advice on ZL1 1LE purchase
Hey all, new to the forum. I am coming from some german cars that I tracked all the time at the VIR, including a 2012 V10 R8, and a 2018 GT3. Those were phenomenal cars, but I didn't drive them as much as I thought I would, and really only used them at the track. I don't want to have as much money tied up in the car, so as I may wait for Z06's to become available in a few years, I have put my focus on the ZL1, which seem to really perform well at the VIR.
I would really like to get some info on what to look out for on used 2019+ ZLI 1LE's. Are they any consistent issues to look out for that a used car would show? Are there options to definitely get, and those to look out for? Are their any supercharger or brake issues to look for? I really appreciate any info. thx |

Nothing really to be concerned about. They are a pretty reliable platform. Some of the 17 & early 18 models had some oil pump failures, but even the odds of that are pretty low.
The ZLE is a great setup for the track in stock form. Really the only option on the ZLE would be PDR which is a pretty cool feature especially for tracking. |

I'll second that the PDR is a very useful option for tracking. Attached a screengrab below of the overlay and info you get from the in-car video.
Once you get the car, download Cosworth Toolbox & Pi Toolbox on a PC. In addition to the video footage of your laps with information overlaid, you get tons of telemetry data to comb through and analyze with those pieces of software. This can all be accomplished with aftermarket products like AiM Solo 2 or Garmin Catalyst, but it's pretty cool to have this stock from the factory.

The stock 3Rs don’t make for good street tires because they don’t grip well when they are cold & suck in the rain. If you plan on driving her on the street & track, I would recommend getting a second set of wheels so you can have a street setup & track setup

Do you happen to have the part numbers needed for this upgrade? This is the first I've heard of it and would like to add it to my 2022 ZLE with the copper free brakes (assuming it fits that combo).

18" take-off Pirelli DH are a great low cost alternative to 3R, I always bring a set of each to the track. DH slicks (new or good takeoff) are the only tire that is equal to 3R on my ZLE, but they dont last as long. |

There are no major issues to look out for and as you already noted, its hard to beat the performance per $. The other big advantage is the low cost of consumables such as brakes and tires compared to other vehicles that perform similarly.
I have two recommendations - 1) Don't make any modifications (including non-OEM pads) until you are pretty familiar with the car on the track and the options available. 2) Use Castrol SRF brake fluid. Have fun! |

Agreed with a lot of above. If you love to track, get the manual. Castrol SRF change and keep everything OEM until you figure out the car. The stock brakes are phenomenal and really dont need pad upgrades until you are really pushing hard consistently and you go to a stickier tire (slicks)
I do recommend an exhaust, not for power but because the car becomes alive and makes you smile all the the time |
