Not shifting into overdrive / lockup

I’m having an issue in 7th/8th, 2017 A8 SS where for some reason I’ll have high rpm’s for the gear. In 8th my Rpm’s could ride at 1500-2000 at 50-55 mph. Normally 1500 rpm in 8th is 65 mph. After driving at that speed for probably 10 minutes or more my converter will lock up and be normal until the trans cools off again. Anyone know why I’m developing a significant delay? I’ve had the TC flushed twice in its life. 55k miles.

Any help would be appreciated thank you.

I believe the converter is designed to do this. Mine does the same. On cold mornings ill get on the interstate and ride in 8th at around 2000rpms at 70ish mph until it comes up to temp then the rpms will drop as the converter locks up. The colder the morning, the longer it takes for it to do so. And i believe it is like this for all gears, not just 7th and 8th. Just harder to notice in the shorter gears. I don't know how cold it needs to be for this to happen but I do know that if the outside temp is warm enough, everything locks up right away.

Interesting. It’s been driving me crazy because I’ve had the car 2 years and I don’t think it’s done it before - currently dropping to 20s a lot here in DE. I just kept assuming tc shudder again and couldn’t find out any info on it

Probably a quick google will answer this.
But I notice the same behavior on our Acura MDX. The shift points change when it's very cold. I have a manual Camaro, so can't speak to your situation directly.

I’ve googled it and searched a lot for an answer, never found one. Like I said owned the car for 2 years never seen it do it before.

Really? I just did a quick google search and like 6 of the first 7 results all described the same thing. Granted the cars in the results are not camaros but they are all modern auto's and all seemingly do the same thing until the trans temp warms up enough. I wouldn't worry about it. I've had mine since aug 2016 and while I can't say I noticed it right away, (it was probably doing it, i just didnt notice for the first year or two) I have noticed it for at least the last 5 years, only in the winter months though. It's never gotten worse and completely goes away when the temp is warm enough outside.

I have an aftermarket TC and it takes about 10 mins before it’ll lock up. This only happens in winter.

Agree. I only noticed on our Acura by watching the tach.
