Not my car, not my dime.

When I had my gen 5, I dressed it up like a Z, just no badges. I don’t care if someone wants to make their car look more aggressive. My only ‘GTFO’ would be if they’re trying to sell it as something it’s not. Otherwise don’t really care.

To be clear, this car had a grand total of one modification done to make it ‘look more aggressive,’ ZL1 badging.

I’ve seen folks dress up their Camaros to look like 1LEs, usually the rear view mirrors give them away. As others have said, dress up your car however you want, it’s your car. But damn, if you’re going to try to fool people into thinking you have a ZL1, you might want to do more than slap a badge on it.

Of the same opinion: I don't care if you want your ZL1 to look like a ford escort, but don't try to sell it as one.

What makes you think this was a ZL1? By your description, it just sounds like it was a V6/T4 with an SS spoiler. There are plenty of those running around.

I never said I thought it was a ZL1. But, the ZL1 badge on the lower rear bumper made me think the owner wants folks to BELIEVE it’s a ZL1.

The owner probably just really likes their car, maybe wishes they had a ZL1. ZL1s aren't for everybody, they're expensive and tough to insure for a young driver.

As car enthusiasts we should all encourage any one's interest, even if it doesn't match our own.

Except...standard SS type spoiler, chrome rims running some pretty skinny tires, definitely not forged rims and big fatties out back. No hood scoop(s). Not Brembos on the rear wheels. Kind of a strange looking front end with vertical running lights.

Clearly this poor guy bought a ZL1, then replaced the front end, the hood, the tires, the wheels, the spoiler and the brakes with non ZL1 options. Now why would he do that? Or...... surely nobody would buy a non V8 Camaro, slap a ZL1 badge on it and think nobody would notice?

Really made me wish I was in my Camaro instead of my son's Mustang.
There's a 5th gen 1LS around here with the steelies on, they have an SS badge along with the rear lights with SS emblems in them.

Upbadging and posers will always be a thing so long as there are different trims of the same car. While certain aspects of modifications I don't mind too much, as other people said, so long as it isn't being sold off as being something that it's not, I don't really care.

In the ZL1 community, there are a significant number of people who add some or all of the exterior aero components, and the hood wrap, on their ZL1s. It does kind of dilute things a bit.

I don't know. I certainly support and encourage interest in sports cars, whether it's a top of the line model, or entry level, stock, modded, whatever, it's all good to me.

I never much thought of what I would call posers. Driving a 300 series BMW, but with M badges on it, or 392 Super Bee badge on a V6, or in this case ZL1 on either a T4 or V6.

To me misleading badging is different from modding one of those cars to look like a different model.

I have some 1LE parts, too, but the intent is to improve the car via their respective performance enhancements, not even thinking about posing as a 1LE. Simply put, IMO customizations are all good as long as the owner isn't trying to pose or lie.

The 2023 V6 is about as fast with as much HP as my 2002 SS! Within a tenth of a second 0-60!

Autoparts stores have been selling badges for as long as there have been autoparts stores. RS, SS, Turbo, etc.

I'd be partial to a "ZL1 Turbo SS" combo on the side of the V6 model. /s
