Quick question on obd scanner
Is it okay to leave the obd scanner plugged while going wot since that’s the only time the cel flashes? I’m trying to catch the code because there isn’t anything pending

Did the flashing CEL not store a code? It doesn't have to be continuously lit to have a code in memory.

Flashing usually indicates a misfire, may not be captured by an OSB scanner

Flashing cel is a random misfire. You are not going to get any other info with a code reader by leaving it plugged in. Check plugs, wires, and harness on passenger side if you have headers.

Shouldn't be any problem with it. A lot of people plug them in for data logging at WOT. I did with my 1994 Camaro without any problems (it was OBD I).

Had a flashing CEL on my Honda and it set a code for a misfire on cylinder 5. It only did it under hard acceleration and went out once I backed off the throttle. Ended up requiring a software update to fix.

Wow. That's not good. Sounds like a run with the scanner plugged in may be the next step. How do they expect you to find out which cylinder is misfiring if it won’t store a code?
