Lol First thing popped in my mind was that I would be a nice guy and drive it back for the owner but see I gotta take a number. Yeah you should be fine, clutch is easy but easy on the go pedal and those tires, especially in colder temps or rain. Check weather forecast for no snow or rain and temp at least 35.
Check tires to make sure they aren’t split from cold before departure. Make sure dealer has car in shop and tires are warmer, so plan accordingly and have fun! Forget all that, it’s all too much, I’ll handle it, pm me your buddies # |

too cold to be driving a zl1 in ohio on ultra summer tires. need to start out of a 50deg day. you will have to wash the salt off as soon as you get out of the salt. it will eat clear coat. I drove my like new 95 Mercury Cougar down to florida in the winter. By the time I got to fl in 2 days the salt etched the paint.

Nothing against you Need 4 but if I was your friend I would get a transport company to get it to Texas. I wouldn’t want to be responsible if something did happen to the car while you were driving it, accident or stolen, if I was in your shoes. I personally wouldn’t drive it because of those reasons but could if I made the decision to. From what I have been told by a couple of folks I know that own a ZL1 is that they have a lot more power than the SS that takes some time to adjust especially with a manual. Good luck and let us know how it was to drive it down to Texas. It will be a memorable and enjoyable experience for you!

Or hit anybody. After further review I would say not a good idea until you have read and studied the ZL1 manual from cover to cover and have had at least 48 hours of logged seat time before soloing on the interstates. |

He owns a 2SS. Other than watching out for bog with the tranny while entering traffic and avoiding cold and wet with the tires there isn't much else to know.

These are some of the easiest vehicles to learn a manual in, because you can slip the clutch and work it in 1st gear without adding any gas. The tricky part is usually getting a manual vehicle rolling without stalling it, and due to the massive torque, this engine bypasses that completely. The hard manual vehicles are the ones with very little torque and power that you have to be much more careful with adding "the right" amount of power during movement of the clutch to not stall, make it go, but not jerk it and cause a secondary reaction with your foot. These even have a hill-assist so if you find yourself on a hill, the car automatically applies brake, it's stupid simple, watch a few youtube videos and you'll be fine.

Well, I completely understand how everyone thinks this is bizarre and I don't necessarily want to down talk the person but they're the type that has piss off money and rotates in and out of fairly expensive cars pretty regularly. The ZL1 this person has is the longest they've kept one particular vehicle that I can remember.

I'm flying there Wednesday night and will arrive Thursday morning. The high will be in the 50's. I'm not going to go directly to the interstate, going to get to know her alittle bit before I do, and definitely aware that the torque can be an issue (which is why I'm going to spend some time getting to know her first.) It's been sitting on the lot for a good while and has been piled with snow (which has sense also melted and repiled) so the first place its going is a do it yourself car-wash and I'm bringing my own washmit / bucket and giving her the same treatment my SS gets. It's going to be washed again once I get to Houston. I'm driving my SS to Houston and parking it, then flying out to Columbus, picking it up and driving back. I agree that... this probably would have been better for a carrier to do, but... ...I couldn't exactly turn down an opportunity to drive a ZL1... So I'll have to take whatever risks come. I think I'll be okay though. |

I flew from Houston to Toledo, Ohio last year after giving thought to driving...but on the road for 16-19 hours is very exhausting. Learning that car on the "fly" will not really be an issue, but driver's fatigue is the most important factor. No matter how experienced or inexperienced we are, dozing off or getting tired while driving is THE biggest concern that I would have. Not only is the condition of the car on the line, but your own life and safety is as well. Personally I'd back out, but I wish you well if you proceed.
