My Headliner Fix
As many of you are aware, the headliner has a tendency to show the foam and appear to be peeling.
After looking through the forum discussions someone gave the idea of using a U-Channel strip similar to that sold for car door edges. After sourcing the trim, I knew it wouldn't work because it was too small and hard to fit. What I ended up doing is buying this. Aside from the texture (a little bumpy) it ended up working pretty great! It has a metal "U" inside the wire so it opens and snaps closed around the headliner edge. Due to the shape of the headliner, I left an inch off both edges. The first image shows how the original headliner looks (the foam) The third to last photo shows after. I know it looks like there is still white but that's just the reflection of the rubber. It looks a lot better in person. If I am being perfectly honest, if I were to do it again, I would choose a trim that is more opaque. Lets see how it holds up with time.

After a year it finally happened. The white carrier material is showing. Your second solution looks nice. Got to have a look at that as the dealer will probably be useless..

Thank you. If you decide to do it, let me know if you have any questions. I opted to not go to the dealer for it because I've read it comes back.

TSB #17-NA-298: Headliner Sag - (Jan 16, 2019). Dealer will replace the windshield and headliner for free due to “mishandling” at the factory. Basically the line workers did not install the headliner correctly. You will need to give them this TSB to lookup to have it covered under warranty.

Nice to know there's now a service bulliten for the headliner issue. Last week I finally did what the OP did here in this thread, and am debating weather to go the dealer or not now

I've heard of people going to the dealer to get it fixed only for it to show again or lead to other issues, and while they are all covered by warranty it seems like a huge hassle to me. Anytime I take my car to the dealer i regret it lol.

No, it's just a pressure fit. As of today since I've made this post, it hasn't fell off and has remained exactly how I installed it

IMO the best part about this rubber trim mod, is how it looks from the inside. No longer do you see the crappy cut of the headliner.... especially where it dips down on the passenger side. From the outside you no longer see the white foam of the headliner, but instead you see the rubber trim itself. Obviously it would be best to see nothing at all, but for the time and money (plus not having to deal with the dealership) it's a great little option
