3 or 3.5 inch DA Polisher recommendation

Hey guys, I'm looking for 3" or 3.5" DA Polisher to go along with my current Griot's Garage 6" (only use it as a 5") DA polisher to get into nooks and crannies. I do have a 3" backing plate I use on the 6" Polisher, but the machine is pretty bulky and it's a bit of a pain to switch backing plates. I have heard that most of the 3" machines are under powered. What do you use and how do you like it? Is it a good value or would you go another route?

Bill

Before spending a lot of money on a tool you will use very little, try adding an extension to your current polisher. The extension will get the machine back away from the surface. If you feel that the extension adds too much vibration, then you may consider a Rupes or a Flex.

This one is for a rotary so you will need a rotary to DA adapter

That's an interesting approach. Might be worth a try. Thanks Kirk

Our Swirl Killer Mini 12mm. is a nice polisher and it's on sale now 20% off with code BF18.

Yes it does...… Sorry I just checked and it's on back order, very popular polisher.

I used the Griots 3 inch for years before it broke, but used it less and less every year. Unlike their 6 inch, I don't think it's a very good value.

I agree. 2 years with Griots 3” and feel it’s under powered and lower quality. I end up using 3” backing plate on the bigger Griots with a longer shaft.

Bill I have the Rupes LHR75 3" mini......it's a beast of a polisher....but it's expensive....I ran across a great deal on it several years ago and got it for under $200...this polisher rarely ever goes on sale though.

I have easily made back what it cost using it to do headlights, scratch removal, and spot paint corrections.

But there are still small areas that it will not fit in.....for these areas I use Carpro Fixer on a yellow foam waxing pad by hand.....it takes time to do, but gets the job done. Rupes has an even smaller polisher, the I-brid, but I can't justify the cost..$570 for the kit.

I keep a 3 inch backing plate on my Porter Cable and a 5 inch on my Torq.

Under-powered seems to be a common complaint, so I will probably avoid this one.

Checked that out and you're right, too much for how much I will be using it

That's my goal, so I don't have to change backing plates.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm going to add the Adams 3" to my Christmas list along with some MRR wheels. We'll so how that goes.

Bill

I added the Adam's Swirl Killer Mini 12mm to my Christmas list, and lo and behold, my wife got it for me (w/o the 20% off unfortunately). I also picked up the MRR M017 wheels

I can't wait for March, getting my car out of winter storage and giving the Adam's Mini a try. I had lower back surgery a week and a half ago, so I am hoping I'll be back working on my car with a lot more freedom and a lot less pain.

Merry Christmas, and thanks again for all of the advice!

Bill
