SS vs 1LE
About to purchase camaro soon. Is the speed difference on the 1LE over the regular SS enough to notice when just driving around? Also is the 1LE ride rougher than a regular SS ride.

The acceleration would be slightly faster due to the 3.91 rear end. Other than that it has the same engine and power. The 3.91 rear end can be installed on the SS, and both models are limited at 155mph.
EDIT: Yes, it would ride harsher. |

I know the 1LE is faster on paper but I am wondering if it is noticeable without going to a drag strip or track. I know I could test drive one but there is absolutely none in my area to test drive.

It probably would be... someone with a 3.91 rear end would be able to tell.

But with 3.91s the car feels 800lbs lighter much more fun to drive at low speeds. Also the 1-4 gears are set up a little better for the 0-100 range then the regular SS. I wish they had the 1le when I got my 12' SS LS3
EDIT: I put 3.91s in my car. |

The transmission gearing is different so for example first gear is almost identical but the1le gears are more evenly spaced for a road course. The ss will be in third gear at end of 1/4 and I think you will need an additional shift on 1 le.

Are you planning on using the car for more than just a driver? (AutoX, road couse, ect) That may be the big reason to go 1LE

How expensive is it to put different gears in one.

The 3:91 gear is also matched with a transmission with different ratios. I do not know that the top speed or fuel economy will be the same without the tranny change also.

Slickcas, Did you have to tune your car for the 3.91 gears? If so, who did the tune? I am just wondering if GM would change the gears and correct the speedo.. |
