I would definitely take an L88 427 big block over a small block any day.👍

The rumble under the hood, the scream when you floor it.

I won't knock anyone for getting a V6 but I personally just couldn't do it. They allow the V8's to be made so I'm cool with em. I can't stand the ecoboost/V6 guys though around town trying to floor it at every red light acting like they're faster than anything on the road. Was in Florida a few weeks ago and in a crowded area some idiot in an ecoboost floored it trying to show out and could've easily killed someone.

More like Ego boost LOL. Who would buy that trashy small engine stang.

At least he didn't have a Challenger or SS or they would have wrecked.

There is a video on YouTube of an l88 that does mid 9s and even edged out hellcats. It was from a speed shop with a couple mods but still. All that raw power does under 10 with some mods!

You talking about that Horsepower Depot stock-looking orange ZL1?

might been that one. There are a couple of them on youtube that are orange and a red one.

There is also a silver one on youtube that runs around 11.5 I think and mostly stock up in MI. I would think you could get a lot better numbers with a great driver. I know I probably couldn't even hit 12 in an L88 not driving one before and having all that power trying to get it to hook. I'd be more scared of crashing the damn thing.

That car is an all aluminum 540ci custom built engine if I’m not mistaken.

It's probably GPM, not MPG

the original L-88was an aluminum engine built for the dragstrip, not many were produced.kind of like the late model COPO cars, they were not really intended for the street.pretty much unbeatable on the strip, but as a daily driver i think you would tire of it after a couple of months.

keep in mind i drove a modded 1966 pontiac with 400 c.i.,headers,and duals for 25 years...my ears still ring as im typing this.but at 63 i realize my best street racing days are but a memory, and the places i used to race at have become too crowded for such stupidity.im good with the old mans luxury cruiser and get around 30 mpg on I-4 on the way to the beach, with the a/c blasting and whisper quiet.enjoy having the V-8s now,the time will come when you wont care as much about the sound effects.

If I recall correctly the L88 was a cast iron block with aluminum heads produced from '67 to '69, the ZL1 was the aluminum engine made in small quantities in '69 for the Vette and COPO Camaros. I was privy to some hand-me-down '60s Hot Rod magazines from my father and I drooled over those old test articles when I was in Highschool back in the early '80s. Oh and my dream BB Vette? '65 396 Coupe FTW!!!
