SS will be parked 3 mos-no trickle charger-OK?
My SS has been parked since April 16th, parking garage. No option for trickle. Was put in transport mode by neighbor after 2 weeks.
I will be back from travel by July 16th latest. Should I have my neighbor take it out for a drive (don’t really want to do this as she’s never driven it) or just hope it starts when I get back? Thanks.

No way to know for 100% sure what state your battery is in
Just bring along a jump pack when you are ready to drive it and be prepared in case it has a dead battery

The battery will be dead without a doubt. These cars have to be stored on a trickle charger when not used for extended periods of time.

Search You tube, There is a video on how to put your SS into storage mode. Dealers do this so the battery won't run down.

I wouldn't be surprised if you come back to a dead battery. Mine couldn't sit for much more than a month and it was deader than a door nail.

He states in the first post that was done after the first 2 wks of storage. But I agree with that it will be low and you should bring a jump pack in case it won't start.

Transport mode will supposedly cure this, but I'd like to hear what happens.

My 2019 SS has gone through two winters now in storage. I stored mine for 6 months in transport mode with zero issues this past winter. Started right up. Every car and battery is different so there are never any guarantees but I think it will be fine.
Let us know how it turns out. Last edited by KenMaro; 06-10-2021 at 10:26 AM. |

Thanks, yes can always use a portable battery pack if need be. I will most likely be back by July 1st, so might be more like 2.5 mos.
I guess no votes for letting my neighbor friend take it out for freeway drive, lol.

My 2017 SS on the original battery was in transport mode for just under 2 months this year and it started fine. I brought my volt meter to check and the voltage before starting it with no issues was 12.24V. So it was at about 50% charge according to this page:
"With the engine off, you should get a reading of 12.6 volts. If the battery isn’t fully charged, it will diminish to 12.4V at 75%, 12V when it’s only operating at 25%, and down to 11.9V when it’s completely discharged." https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/r/...-voltage-range I have also read that OnStar can drain the car's battery faster especially if the car's storage location does not have a good cell signal but I don't have it enabled and don't know if transport mode affects it or not. It is handy to have one of the inexpensive new style small jump packs just in case, especially if you have multiple cars. Plus they can be used as a flashlight and to charge your phone in case of a power outage: https://www.amazon.com/GOOLOO-18000m.../dp/B08CXMS19H Last edited by cdrptrks; 06-10-2021 at 12:02 PM. |

I put mine in storage mode in November. When I tried to start it March the battery had 4 volts in it and would not turn car over even with a jump pack. If it’s stored in warmer climate un hook the negative battery cable next time and it will be fine.

My dad stores his 2018 SS and he keeps track with his battery charger on how much discharge the battery does. It is usually about 1% per day. Maybe just have her start it and let it run for 15 minutes. That will help.
