Trimming sound deadner under LT1 intake for LT2

Merry Christmas All! Or at least Happy Holidays!

I was pretty sure that someone posted photos of the section of the sound deader that you needed to trip in order to install the LT2 intake.

Does anyone have those? Link or maybe Youtube?

Thanks!

Trim the areas of foam above the hpfp but leave enough that it still swings around d back on the firewall side

Nah. It is a good idea to try to re-use the foam. It will quiet down the fuel pump and injector noise and help with keeping heat from the engine out of the intake manifold.

On the other side of the coin, without the foam it will allow a certain amount of air flow to flow under your manifold intake and perhaps help lower temperatures?

The foam helps make it quieter that’s for sure. I did the LT2 intake swap and just decided not to put it back even with it trimmed out to fit. Either or works in IMO.

Leave the foam out, but get new intake bolts.
They have a new version with 8mm heads and blue loctite.

I’m in the camp of hearing the fuel pump and injectors without the foam. I didn’t hear it when I had a loud exhaust but did once I quieted it down. I put the foam in and I don’t hear it again.

It’s funny that some people want to hear the fuel pump and injector noise.

When the Saturn Sky Redline and Pontiac Solstise GXP came out, people complained about lifter tick. It was the HPFP. GM put out a TSB to fit a high density foam insulator to quiet down the ticking.

Yea I threw mine in the storage unit. Heat shielded the bottom of my manifold and called it a day. I have headers to MBRP so I can’t hear crap. I can’t even hear this post…
