Picked up new car - dealer riveted in front plate!

First off, I love the new ride. I was surprised to see that the dealer riveted in a license plate bracket on the front bumper. I should have said something, but I absolutely want that thing gone.

The dealer would not remove it, said it is state law that the car leaves the lot legal.

What options do I have for this? Drill the rivets out? Can I plug this up somehow? Definitely do not want a front plate.

I just drilled the heads off the 4 rivets. Use a drill bit slightly larger than the center of the head.

MO requires a front plate too. It definitely helps to ask before you take delivery. I asked the sales person to leave the front plate bracket off my 5th and 6th Gen Camaros and had no problems. I did buy a Sto-N-Sho front bracket so I can mount a plate when I really want one. I helped a friend remove the front plate bracket off their 6th Gen and they decided the holes were small enough that they didn't bother to fill them.

I thought you all in ohio, you had to have a front plate? I know we dont here in Indiana, but when ever I cross the state line, seems as if everyone over there has one.

Ya, just drill the heads off of the rivets.

My dealership didn’t install mine when I bought it. Ohio is working on getting ride of front license plates well there’s a bill out for it but I doubt it will pass. I hate front plates.

I bought my car in Ohio. Salesman said they never put the front bracket on, they let the customer decide if they want it.

That sucks. I live in Florida and we dont have front plates. years ago a dealer did the same thing when i told them not to. i canceled the sale and bought a different car from a different salesperson who actually listened.

Profile is wrong, I live in MO. Have gone front plateless the past 16 years or so without issue. I don’t want to ugly the front of my new car.

The sto-n-show sounds like a good idea. My last car had holes drilled but no plate, it really didn’t look so bad. I never tried to fill it though.

Btw, I’m also in STL. Purchased vehicle in IL.

Get some of the plastic plugs that hold trim panels on. Something like these. Cheap. They fill the holes and are almost invisible. I had to enlarge the holes a bit. The shaft of the plug is slightly oval.

Front license bracket

On each of the last 6 performance cars that my son or I purchased, we've had face to face discussions with the new car manager of the selling dealership, insisting that no front bracket be installed. We also live in Ohio, and I doubt that the dealer is required by law to install these brackets. These 6 cars were: 96 and 98 Z28s, a 2003 ZO6, a 2008 Corvette, a 2013 427 Corvette, and a 2017 Camaro SS. While these are all cars that attract some attention on the highway, neither of us has ever been stopped for lack of a front plate. It can usually be of help to be proactive and tell the salespeople what your expectations are. Good luck with the bracket removal, and with all your future new performance car purchases!

The dealerships are not required by law to do that. They ****ed up and are trying to force you to just accept it. Every car I've bought new in CA never had a bracket/plate installed on the front.
