V6 vs V8 Dilemma
Hey folks,
I can see this thread dividing the forum and up front realize we all have different views but I'm searching for a Camaro and my budget of $33-35k puts me in the sweet spot between either a high spec new/nearly new 2LT V6 RS or a 2016/2017 1SS. I'm leaning heavily towards the V8 with lower spec but just wondered if others went through the same process and what the key contributing factors were behind your decision? Honestly, either option would be a great car for me and I was initially only looking at V6 but budget has just crept up to get me into SS territory so keen to hear if the V8 really provides notably more fun on a daily basis and any concerns with the heavier engine impacting handling? Presumably the V6 feels lighter and more nimble or does the SS suspension enhancements (assuming base spec without magnetic ride / LSD) more than make up for that? cheers, Pete. |

Drive them both....decide.
You are correct, 98% of the responses you get here will be "buy the V8". Some of them will be ridiculous testosterone statements. .And I agree, if you haven't owned the V-8 , you always want one. I've owned two recent Chevy V8's so the V-6 for me this time around, was perfectly fine, in two years I have not missed it.

I was in your same situation a few months back. I ended up buying a loaded V6. This is my only car, so I wanted all the comforts. That along with the regular vs premium fuel and the higher insurance costs for the V8 pushed me toward the V6. I have no regrets. You just have to decide what is most important to you.

i was a v6 owner then i moved to v8
v6 was a joy for me because it was the first sport car for me, then i was excited to get the mighty v8 for me: now for new models i cant go back to v6 anymore because i love the v8 so, test them both and u'll decide bro good luck

Depends on what you want really.. for someone like Glen who has been there done that with the V8s.. his V6 fits his need perfectly.
The SS is actually overkill for street driving and the V6 does a hella of a job with plenty of power. |

Wait, there's a dillema here? Let me clear this up then, V8 or you will regret it the entirety of your Camaro ownership.
I bought my 1ss for 36k and it actually came with a few options at that as well, ZERO regrets. The only thing you will actually miss from a fully loaded Camaro is the leather seats and bose audio, and even then imho the cloth seats are much more comfortable than the leather, I've sat in both. Bose would have been a plus but with my Borla Atak system I hardly even have my radio on anyways! Not to mention a 1ss will hold much more resale value as compared to a fully loaded v6. ^_^ |

It is possible to buy a 2LT 1LE for less than $35k, I did. You just need to find someone willing to deal with you. Everything the RS has and then some.

I bought a 1LE and its an absolute blast to drive but I rented a 2017 convertible when I went to California and it doesn't have that wow factor that the V8 does but the V6 is more than capable of everyday driving. I like the way my car handles but I will never drive it to its potential so the cheaper car, gas, and insurance of a V6 wouldn't be a deal breaker if you found the right car. I would say it all depends on what you want. If you are one of those guys that always wants more I would say the V8 just so there is no regrets.
