The change was made for the 2018 model year. My 2017 SS had full use of the app functions for remote controls and vehicle location. My 2018 had a 30 day trial and then they want the $14.95 a month for features that I had for free one model year earlier.

IMO, when you're paying $40k+ for a vehicle, it should be included. Nickel and dime crap is such a turn off to a brand.

Cadillac also got rid of the free maintenance (oil changes and tire rotations) on leases. "no else does it anymore". Was a nice perk. We were told GM used the savings to lower the prices, which I don't really see.

sales volume down by 13%, but profits up 58%... has to come from somewhere

It ducks they took away this free feature that others give for free. It was neat but I never really used it. Especially after Waze became available on Apple Car Play.

I thought it was something like $38/month after the free trial expires?

They want $14.95 to simply use the phone app on top of the normal fee for OnStar.

I have the basic Onstar plan on my wife's and daughter's vehicles. There is an insurance discount, and I like the safety factor in case they are in an accident with airbag deployment or even something simple like a flat tire. My wife's XT5 came with an inflator kit instead of a spare, so I think of Onstar as a feature to help in case of a flat. I got the basic plan under a buy 6-months get 6-months free promo. That made it $120/year. Worth it to me!

well since they made the change to the short term in May of 18 you are grandfathered to the old plan of 5 years, lucky you.

no you can just buy the phone app for 14.95 no need to buy anything else to use it.

Android auto or car play is all that should be standard.

The additional intrusiveness of OnStar should be an optional feature. You really don't need anything other than an interface for your phone. The sat radio, nav system, OnStar are all complete wastes of money and space that do nothing but duplicate existing features your phone could do and which you already are paying for

I'll tell you what else is ridiculous-BMW charging for Apple CarPlay. It would be a deal breaker for me if I was in the market.
"BMW will turn Apple CarPlay into a subscription service beginning with its 2019-model-year vehicles. The German automaker currently charges a one-time $300 to add Apple CarPlay capability to navigation-equipped BMW models. Going forward, though, navigation-equipped BMWs will come with CarPlay at no charge for one year".

Me too. I am usually content just disappointing one woman at a time.

As for OnStar, I don't see the value it provides as being worth much of anything. Maybe someone can explain to me where the value is, because I'm not seeing it.
