Nothing internally has changed in the LT1 since it was launched all the way back in 2013 for the 1st model year C7 Corvettes. The mobil 1 full synthetic 5w-30 that was recommended and fine to use back then is also fine to use today. Nothing has changed.

What most on this forum say is that 0W-40 is best for tracking the car.

I use 5w30 in my 2017 ZL1 and will continue using because I don’t do any track events.

Just requires dexos1Gen2 5w30, no special oil unless you are tracking it.

Boy, there's a lot of misinformation being posted here. The OP has a 2022 LT1, and his owner's manual says he should be using 0w-40 Dexos 2 oil for all purposes. It doesn't say it's okay to use 5w-30 weight if you feel like it, and it doesn't say using a non-Dexos oil is okay. And the 0w doesn't only come into play at -20F. The OP should read his owner's manual - it would answer all his questions - but you guys shouldn't be telling him things that could potentially void his warranty, either.

Ironic you're complaining about misinformation...

If 0W-40 dexos2 oil is not available, SAE
5W-30 dexos1 full synthetic engine oil may
be used for street use

There are two 'recommended' oils for the LT1 in the Gen6.

0W-40 dexos2 full synthetic is on the cap (now, it wasn't before) and is required for track use of the car.

5W-30 dexos1 (gen2) is perfectly fine for street use.

This is how it has always been. The only thing that has changed is that GM used to say "5W-30 unless you're on the track" and now they say "0W-40 unless you aren't on the track." It's the exact same requirements but represents a slight shift in how they cover their a** legally.

The reason your dealership balked is because they don't want to cover the cost of the 0W-40 oil and they aren't aware of the needs of the performance cars. Stay away from them for service since they don't actually service enough performance cars to know what they're doing.

And if he did read the owner's manual, he would see where it very clearly states that 5W-30 dexos1 oil is acceptable for street use.

Why in the world would anyone admit to using the wrong oil when going for a warranty claim?
The differences among the oils we are discussing here are negligible for everyday use.
And the cost of lab testing to definitively prove a customer used the "wrong" oil would likely exceed the cost of a new engine. Might not even be possible unless it is very new oil.

If 0W-40 Dexos 2 is not available. So the preferred oil is 0W-40 Dexos 2.

Maybe so. But, preferred and required are not the same. 5W-30 dexos1 is the minimum required for warranty purposes if the car is not being driven on the track.

^THIS! Thank you, someone who can also understand that these engines have been taking Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic from the factory since 2013 AND that these engines have not changed at all since 2013 either.
