Question Rear Bumper Lower Fascia Bracket Broken

The noise from this has been driving me mad so I finnally got underneath the car to investigate. It appears the supporting brackets are both broken and totally loose. I attached a photograph. Although my car is still under 36k, I did get rear-ended and had insurance work done less than a year ago and I have since relocated. That fiasco was crazy as I was hit by another Camaro driver! Went without my car for a month due to State farm. Would a local dealership see this as warranty work? Upon further research it appears the bracket is its own part #23281500. Perhaps I can DIY. My bumper cover is also misaligned and sagging similar to the 2017 GM bulletin…frustrating

If the Carfax report shows it was rear ended I don’t think it will be warranty, although you never know if the dealership would try to run it through a warranty claim also that part number comes up as being $14 so you might want to just change it yourself

My 1LT had a broken one of those, from what I figured it just adds rigidity to the lower valence. It’s two bolts (one to the rear crash bar, one to the bottom of the lower valence) easily accessible as you’ve already gotten to the ‘harder’ to reach of the two in your photo

You call your insurance company and tell them that you just learned that the work that was done was not done completely / properly and you want to file a supplemental claim. See where that goes...

I would but the accident occurred in the state of Kentucky and there the claim was processed through the at fault drivers insurance. The body shop did say they warranty their work and to come back if I have any issues but that does involve a road trip. Never a bad excuse to drive the tail of the dragon again!

For $30 I would probably just do it myself. You’d have a hell of a lot more than that in time dealing with it all. My 2c.

Still would be worth a call... As long as they would still be willing to accept it as supplemental and there's a shop that can attest that the damage is related to the accident, they should approve the work regardless of the shop doing it.

I ordered the part and will install it myself. Can’t be any harder than replacing the door check.

Turns out it is more involved than I imagined. The repair shop installed the bumper cover first and then decided to be lazy and install these brackets backwards. To install them properly, the bumper cover needs to be removed. I will share a photos next time I find myself underneath the car.

That's annoying. At least it's not something worse though, and is straightforward.

Not at all surprising.
Now you know why you are better off fixing the whole thing yourself.
And you may find more mistakes.
