GT500 at VIR
https://www.motortrend.com/news/2020...ck-test-review
CFP is 5s faster than base car, but why no lap times reported? I know Ford said they aren't playing the lap time game, but why aren't they allowing the magazines to post times? For $100K, I need to know how the car compares to others before I buy the CFP car. Mustang fans: many of us track guys would LOVE to switch to the GT500, we just have know it's worth the money. |

Weight = killer.
When you have nothing to hide, you hide nothing.
When you're hiding something, you always have a reason. "Lightness" was not added to this car... ... but on the other hand ... It's MT so they may just be funding themselves with clicks. |

To be fair MT did the same thing with the C8 Vs C7 https://www.motortrend.com/cars/chev...-track-review/ Didn't post any lap times with it, and this test also happened to be at VIR

Interesting that they didn't do it at the Laguna Seca, that seems to be MT's go to with Randy. With Willow Springs thrown in here and there. Usually C&D runs the VIR in my observations.
Guaranteed someone comes up with a conspiracy theory as to why lol

Fastestlaps (grain of salt) is showing the 1le being 5s faster than the base zl1 on VIR east course. Kind of interesting that the CFP option is yielding the same delta assuming they ran on the east course.

... and every car faster than the zle on that list is lighter with most being significantly lighter.
Let's say Ford is magic and the base gt500 ties the zle. That would put the CFP gt500 at 2:40. A 4300lb car that out laps a ford gt? But if they are magic, wouldn't the ford gt be significantly faster than a 2:40s lap? Just having fun speculating... |

VIR will also let the gt500 stretch it’s legs.

In most practical applications it does. Just saying it’s not impossible. It certainly has a hp advantage |

Right. I believe the heavier weight has a slightly negative affect on the friction coefficient (been a while since I studied all that) but the problem is the force trying to pull the car off the track given a constant turning radius and speed is proportional to the mass, so your traction increase would have to be proportional to the mass increase. So I'm thinking speed through the turns is a wash at best against a zle and likely the zle is slightly faster. So it would have to be the scorching fast straight line speed and braking of the CFP gt500 that would be the difference. Seems like it could only be a few seconds though. Again, hope I'm wrong and the CFP gt500 is magic and I have a new car to lust after, ha!

They're probably saving Laguna for the Best Drivers Car competition next year. The C8 will definitely be there.

The previous H2H was between two cars with a big power gap. So will this one. Eliminate a variable. Interesting also the MT did the ZL1 M6 vs A10 laps ay Big Willow.
